I downloaded the Diablo 4 trial on Steam and everytime I exit the game, my computer gets a BSOD with the Kernel Security Check Failure error. Does anyone have any experience with this? I’ve been trying to find the cause but so far, no luck.
I’ve run checkdisk. Reinstalled Windows 11. Updated graphics and audio drivers.
Do you get any other details in the error that you can share?
Do you have memory integrity enabled or disabled? I would try it with it disabled if you don’t already have it set that way.
However.
This usually indicates a pretty severe issue with either a file corruption or possible malware/virus indication.
In this case, it seems flushing the game files on exit may be causing it to error out for some reason.
Its also possible its a memory problem.
Try disabling any overclocking or turning off XMP on your memory.
I disabled memory integrity and it had no impact. Overclocking is disabled and XMP is off. I’m still getting this error.
Can you provide more info:
Exact error wording and any error code/numbers - Screen shot if you can
System details (CPU, GPU, etc)
Current GPU driver version installed
At what point exactly the error pops up (soon as you click exit, as its shutting down, after it gets to the desktop, etc)
You may also want to consider contacting Blizzard via the ticket system if you haven’t already. You can do that here:
-Blizzard Support - Diablo IV
Sometimes opening a support ticket can help. Keep in mind they are currently having delays in support, with the holidays and all. Alternately, you could also check in with Steam support here:

I have also linked other threads on the issue here.
-BSOD on Exit (Windows 11, GTX 1070 Ti)
OS – Windows 11 Home
CPU – i5 – 8400
GPU – GTX 1070 Ti (Driver Version: 546.17)
RAM - CORSAIR - VENGEANCE LPX Series CMK16GX4M2B3000C15 16GB (2PK 8GB) 3.0GHz DDR4 Desktop Memory – Black
SSD – Samsung 860 EVO 500GB 2.5 Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-76E500B/AM)
The error happens after exiting the game when it gets to the desktop. It immediately becomes a BSOD with the error Kernel Security Check Failure.
I did a clean install of Windows 11 and it solved the issue. I’m still not sure what caused it but this did fix it.
