One of the things I really missed during the betas (and I was assuming it would be there 100%) was WASD. I was even more surprised when controllers were supported, because analog sticks are the same concept but a lot more complex to implement in terms of sensors, deadzones, etc.
Lately I’ve also been playing a few different games that offer WASD or traditional mouse-click movement and I can swear I prefer WASD very much over mouse-clicking everything.
So I was wondering, will we have WASD at some point? Seems like a huge QOL improvement that would take very little effort to implement (or maybe not, IDK about the entrails of the game).

It’s currently not planned, but they said they’ll see how demand is after the game releases and work on more control schemes as the game goes along.

Blizzard hasn’t explicitly ruled it out they just said it won’t be in at release for obvious reasons.
The probability of it happening isn’t the greatest though. There are certain things that won’t be in at release but are certain to happen like ray-tracing, and then there are things that won’t be in at release but it’s not clear at all if they’ll ever be implemented. WASD is the latter not the former.
Take it from MJ, if you don’t expect great things, you won’t be disappointed. I would like it, but I don’t believe it will be here. It’s not in any other Diablo game, why should it be here? Just because some live streamer wants to drum up the gamers that play by asking for something that never existed in any prior version of it? Doesn’t make any sense to me. That’s my 2c worth.
Sometimes its not about effort.
To quote bliz themselves, “You think you do, but you don’t” fits the WASD argument well. They doing you guys a favor by not allowing you to keyboard turn in fire

While i 100% agree with you here, what they said this to (Vanilla WoW Servers) they were completely wrong on.
Not saying you’re wrong or anything but native controller support hasn’t been in any other PC version of Diablo either and yet here we are.

Diablo Immortal has both natively, but I am not sure some folks consider that a “Diablo game”. It does have a PC version, not just mobile.
I find it really useful personally, as I like to use WASD to strafe in games.

Hopefully. It’s the biggest need the game has right now.

My bad.
I wasn’t aware that D:I had native controller support I thought it was just WASD. I’ve never played the PC version personally.
I remember reading online about someone from the team implying that the Server Slam could have WASD related settings. At this point I don’t remember where I read this though.
Forget what I said. I probably created something in my head about it.

I really hope not. Sorry, not sorry.

I have never owned or played on a console so I am PC for life or something.
Heh. I think it was great to have more control options in D:I and hopefully D4 too. It makes it a lot more accessible for people who have any manual control issues for any reason. Us old arthritic folks, and folks with RSI injuries, most certainly find it useful.
Oh, D2R also has native Controller support, now that I think of it. No WASD though.

I haven’t heard that and I’ve been following the WASD issue since the beta very closely. I got Rod to answer my tweet about it a while back and he said it wouldn’t be at launch. In the previous live stream before the last one, they had mentioned that they might talk about it after launch.

This is my current understanding too. I have not see anything leading me to think the WASD issue would be addressed in the Server Slam, or any time near launch.
If it happens, it will be later on. I hope it does happen, but certainly not holding my breath!

I could answer this question in so many ways. I’ll just answer with a question. Why do we have horses? Or dungeons? Or a battle pass?
Anyway I’m not aiming this as a demand or entitlement, just saying it would be VERY beneficial and would take small effort, it would be a huge accessibility feature since you can relieve a lot of strain from your right hand click-click-click and just hold down keys on your keyboard.
Hopefully Blizzard will do it at some point, like they eventually added a way to “move and interact” without attacking monsters, which was alreayd present and very valuable in previous ARPGs, but somehow failed to be there last 2 beta weekends.

Regardless of whether or not someone wants to consider it as such, it still is the closest analogue we have in examining the advantages/disadvantages of the control scheme. Any honest attempt at such discussion would therefore include it.

You have some nerve, how would you like it if someone called you out and told you that your medical condition was BS. I don’t think you’d care for it too much, in fact I’m pretty sure that would pi$$ you right the hell off. Don’t do that! Your a known troublemaker on other forums and it looks like your spreading it over here too so I’ve reported you for this.
