Not to sound like a Debbie downer, mostly because I quite enjoyed the closed/open beta weekends and much so looking forward to D4, but… am I the only one out there that doesn’t like seasons? Coming from D3 I thought it might be pertinent to bring this discussion back to light before D4 launches.
I totally understand that seasons are optional which is great. The problem(s) I have with them are that you’re missing out on content that you’ll never get to see unless you participate. I personally don’t like having to start a fresh character every 3-4 months…I just don’t. I want to enjoy my character that I’ve built up over time and have new challenges thrown at me…not reset back to level 1 over and over again.
With that being said, I guess the biggest issue here is FOMO or fear of missing out. I don’t have the concrete data analytics like the developers do, but I’m pretty sure most people who play D3 now a days only ever participated in seasons and never touched their regular characters once seasons were introduced.
- Seasons lower the player base in the regular modes meaning I won’t have as many folks to do groups with and kill world bosses
- You miss out on free content being added to the game unless you do seasons
- Seasons will always be new in D4 and progression won’t care over to the regular game
So going back to my title, what incentives can think of where you aren’t ‘forced’ to participate in seasons without missing out playing with all your friends and all the new ways/content to play the game? Seasons always just completely invalidate all the time you spent playing the ‘regular’ non-seasonal mode and I hate that. There has to be a reason to avoid seasons without having the player feel like crap they aren’t participating in them.

You’re not the only one who dislikes seasons. I have played them and I, like you am not a fan of re-leveling (even being boosted, D3 community rocks for doing that BTW)
So Once I max level in story, I may just stop playing I guess. But that’s my choice. But incentive to not play seasons would be great for us non seasonal likers.
I just don’t know if the analytics support a non seasonal player base.

Why would there be? You are literally asking for participation trophies, for not participating.
I didnt think people on this forum could get much worse.
I was wrong.
I should be rewarded for not playing too I guess.
Come on blizz icentivise me to not only not play, hell make it worth my while to not even purchase the game!
Stupid.

The incentive for not doing seasons is, as you said, not resetting your characters.

I feel like lot of assumption happened there that are fairly illogical. If I missed some info feel free to point me towards sources
Seasons will always be new in D4 and progression won’t care over to the regular game
After end of season your seasonal characters become Eternal, joining rest of your permanent characters and I would assume they will be able to freely. I don’t see reason why they wont be able to share account bound items with rest of your roster, that was always the case.
All seasonal cosmetic unlocks, stash unlocks or whatever there will be are account wide and not exclusive for your seasonal characters.
I estimate around 0% chance for new legendary aspects, items, etc to be season exclusive after season concludes, you assume that regular game wont be getting updated at same frequency, I really don’t think this will be the case especially since it literally has to share same client data and everything.
I plan to make regular Necro as my main and play season from time to time and feed everything to that main in between seasons.
Participating?
Buying the game = participation.
All content should be made available in all game modes. If you want to start over, go ahead. There’s nothing special about Seasons that deserve exclusive incentives.

Not playing in seasons= not particpating in season, no you shouldnt get perks for NOT doing something.
All content should… lol listen to that entitlement.
It should nothing. Dont be so entitled.
It will be, after the season. Play it or dont, thats a choice. Just because you make a choice doesnt mean you should be given a gd cookie.
Continuing to play non-seasonal mode = participating in non-season mode.
There shouldn’t be any incentive to play in a season other than to get a fresh start. THAT is the only incentive you should get - a fresh start.

Way off base, but you usually are, so not surprising.
seasons are next level stupid. leveling becomes an obnoxious gate. RPG, leveling should be the main aspect of the game. being overpowered and ridiculous is the end game reward. this game will likely turn into D3. 1 hour to max level then spam greater dungeons all day.
enjoy the lower damage numbers and slower pace while you can. theyll ruin it like they did D3 in about 2 years with this season garbage.

Right, but if you don’t participate then you miss out on where all the other players are at and miss out on free content.

Yep. There’s not much to say about it. Seasons are just how this kind of game keeps things fresh. People will complete their character/goal for the season and then wait for the next one or maybe the one after.
Yeah, I was giving out some bougie power levels this latest season. I’d get people to like paragon 600 and drop them any primals I found
. One guy I was able to get him his 6 primals for the altar by the time he was P600.
If they do it like POE (which they should), whatever content or theme they had for that season will get transferred to the live servers when a new season starts.
So the people playing a season will get new content, and then 3 or 4 months later, the live servers will get that content as new content.

They did that for D3 as well, but they’ve already stated that’s not happening anymore for D4 because they don’t want bloat. It also doesn’t alleviate any of the other problems I mentioned.
No he/she is not the only one that dislikes seasons. I’m neutral about them, and I will play for the cosmetics. But I would rather just see the cosmetics and the new content added to the main persistent world.
Keep in mind, seasons came to Diablo 3 to combat all the cheating that came out of the PS3 days with save editors which could then be transferred to PS4. So the PS4 userbase complained that they had way to many cheaters, modded gear etc. So Blizzard came up with seasons to even the field.
However, this being a live service always online game. I don’t see the point of seasons instead of just adding content and growing the game.

no, youre just taking your childhood traumas out on this guy.
he wants content for his main character, he doesnt want to reroll characters constantly.
its pretty simple, and i believe a majority of us are in favour of breaking the PoE seasons mold, if this game is to be more casual, lets do it. screw seasons, we have lives.

In curent drop rate which is similar to D3 and what we know about end game it will be like D3 you will be done with your char in one week or maybe two, there wont be instant grafitation like in D3 which is 2 days.
Just wonder how can you play something uterly bad as D3 for more then 2 days?

Seasons will be the reason people keep playing Diablo 4. Everybody else will just log in occassionally once a week. After doing 10 Seasons straight in D3, it became stall. Nothing blizz did will make it more exciting than just making a new character just to have this sense of progression.
you just contradicted yourself so hard its insane.
seasons will keep the hardcore no lifers around.
seasons will not be used by the rest of us, I can say with confidence that 90% of the player base will roll eternal characters and only play those.
what needs to happen is content needs to be made for eternal and seansonal characters, and these things need to overlap
its not hard to allow both player types to enjoy the content, think outside the box.
