Just wondering if there is ever any possibility of this game becoming an MMO-like game where you progress a single character rather than starting from scratch every few months. The idea of starting from nothing every time is quite synonymous in my mind with utter waste of time.

play eternal realm then i guess ?
i mean , every uber bosses , new mechanics (aside from the temporary seasonal ones like holy bolt elixir) are part of eternal realm
so you won’t miss much and you’ll have as much time as you need
i personally like starting from scratch (otherwise i’d be done with the game very quickly)
if you don’t , there is eternal realm (i played only eternal in D3 so it’s ok to do so)

I’m not a fan of MMO’s, but I absolutely hate the seasonal resets. I’m glad more and more people are realizing that the seasonal model could be better and offer and option for players who don’t want to keep creating new characters so often.

I hope with all my heart that no game from the original franchise (this excludes Immortal) never becomes an MMO

seasonal is by definition seasonal.
every aarpg with season has reset that’s how season work in the first place.
No problem, like i said i only played eternal in D3 and i was fine with it.
if you enjoy reset : play seasonal
if you don’t : play eternal.
these modes are made specifically for that.

Diablo 4 is not every arpg.

whether it’s poe , D2 (with ladder) , D3 with season or any other aarpg with seasonal content

I don’t know. That game is under development and according to the devs they change their minds all the time. Everything is subject to change.

I didn’t say that you said that. I was pointing out that comparing Diablo 4 to a typical ARPG is not a proper argument, imo. Especially because Diablo 4 tried to be different and brought MMO elements to the game.
The only elements of an MMO are “Massively Multiplier-Online”.
Well D3 was online, and had a massive player base, but only 4 people per game.
D4 similarly only has 4 people per game (in dungeons/pits etc…), but you can have a “massively” large 12 player party in the open world.
It’s really not a massively multiplayer game, and everything else that you consider an MMO element isn’t, they’re RPG elements, and this is an A-RPG.
It is all derived from D&D in the end.
What I’m saying is that I am not a fan of the catch phrase “ARPGs are supposed to about X”, “Diablo is supposed to be about X”. This game is supposed to be what the devs want it to be.

I don’t want it to ever go full mmo in that the best rewards are only for the people with super friends. That drove me out of wow after more than a decade of soloing.
That said I only play eternal, if I ever get to a point where starting over sounds like a good idea I think I will just switch to something else.

The most important thing for me to know, is if you played WoW for a decade by yourself?
Fact: “that game” WILL have seasonal content.
