Remember when the company that made ARK was still in early access… and then tried to sell a paid expansion before finishing the game?
I do, and I remember the sentiment felt at the time by a large part of the community and how not only confused but that it violated the consumer contract we had established in games for a long time. I didn’t buy it and have never played ARK simply from hearing about this at the time. And it put me off “early access” for a long time and have had less than 5 titles ever supported (dead cells is a slap).
So here we are with D4, you forced consumers into an even worse contract. You didn’t tell us we were paying for unfinished game, forced into early access… (still a nightmare state where most things don’t function or are broken). Steamrolling through seasons without fixing or addressing them was not a good look or feel. Packaging updates that should have shipped week 1 as season content… and then announcing paid content…
It’s very much the same feeling and approach. But somehow even worse and less ethical.
An old expression comes to mind. “Putting the cart before the horse”. A big reason I will not spend or play these products. Your ideology is wrong and your inability to make right on a very big rug pull before trying to scoop more money out of our pockets kind of seals the deal.
