The season theme is good, the rewards are good, the problem is class balance especially for Rogue, i tried PEN/RF, Flurry/RF, Twisting blades all Physical DMG builds …all crap, then I tried poison of all 3, then cold of all 3 then shadow all 3… they all suck, but as soon as i add rain of arrows to any of them … GOD MODE…so boring, How can they screw up balance this bad every patch, do they not test things? i get the physical dng builds will never be top but they struggle to even to the same tier in the pit, just sad after 7 seasons of doing this and they still put 1 build thats 1000x better than the rest. wtf?
I have a theory as to why this happens. Blizz nerfs, and “Re-balances” classes, and builds every season to entice players to continue to return and try new builds and characters. Its more of an enticement than full blown incompetence…except for the sorc, they literally have no clue how to build this class properly.
What they don’t get is that this “Business model” alienates players and continues to bleed players instead of making them return to play their favorite build/class.
It’s because so much focus was on Spiritborn for a whole season. Ironically Spiritborn actually had multiple builds.
Now the 1 build per class issue has been exposed. And Blizzard’s balance team is scrambling around with their pants around their ankles not knowing what to do, Adam Jackson has left them, what do they do now? God in his mighty father of Christ how hard is it to tone down multipliers and buff more than 1 skill or build per season?
THE NIGHTMARE!!!
My leapquake barb can crush pit 120 in about 5 minutes, haven’t tried pushing him much further. I’m sure I could do 130 if I wanted to. My meteor sorc in slightly worse gear can barely finish a pit 80 and that’s the best build they have this season. Blizz as a whole is not what it once was. All the talent that made the company special is long gone.
Instead of great game design due to talent, dedication and knowledge on a consistent basis what we get to today is the occasional good design based purely on luck.
Agree 100% and its why season 6 was so boring too. Now that its happened 6 seasons in a row where 2-4 builds are crazy OP and 500 times stronger than every other build, I have to believe its on purpose. This season I played the blood wave necro which demolishes everything with one button. Last season the spritborn was ridiculously OP. Season2, the ball lighting sorc and Hota Barb. Season 3 hota barb. There was the andariel visage barage rogue one season, and the lightning spear sorc another one. Also the bash barb was ridiculous one season.
It’s just so stupid. Every season a few builds that just obliterate everything and make every other of the 1000s of possible builds unplayable. It has become very boring.
I keep hoping it has something to do with why the lead class designer left. Probably not, but maybe someone else being in charge will yield different class balance results. He had 6 seasons to get it right, and he stated in every campfire that he was going to, and every season we’ve gotten this instead.
Adam Jackson, that says all he left allready, so maybe, MAYBE something will happen when it comes to balance.
To be honest I feel like devs at blizzard come up with various ideas for broken builds before a season starts, and then program them into the product. They then get the content creators to make videos hyping the broken builds. They feel its better if they come up with some fun broken builds each season that everyone plays rather than letting their players decide what to play.
Who wants to tell him?
The “bored” thing needs this addressed too, How many players out there are just buying all the items and gold they need to do a pit 120 in a few days into a season? The chat is full of people just throwing around a billion for this, 5billion for that. 60/200+ in less than a week.
Of course its boring, you’ve skipped the entire middle.
plenty of problems sure, but its not all blizzard.
They’ll nerf earthquakes into oblivion for s8, I have no doubt.
Personally I think Barb is in a good spot, maybe a little too strong but after they said that it’ll be toned down next season… rip.
I’m currently playing that build, Rain of Arrows, Can’t seem to get it to where I can 100% Spam my ULTIMATE. I’m close, but not there quite yet.
It’s a fun build.
I think I’ll play different builds until I get their R. Spark then I’ll move on to the next alt.
Unless a new Sorc. Build is found My next Alt will be Spirit Born, already bought a skin for him ^^
Yeah it’s a lot of new people, but there are veterans as well. Adam Jackson worked at Blizzard since WoW: Cata so he had experience.
The problem is:
-
Base Diablo 4 was pretty badly designed (imo at least World Tiers, Whispers, and NMD’s were not fun content, and felt more like WoW/mmo chore content)
-
Most don’t want the endgame to be all about leveling and grinding for that .01% chance to get a Mythic. (Blizz also missed what made D2 so compelling to most. Which is like going to your fav bbq place but they changed the sauce cause to them it’s all just bbq sauce anyway)
-
The game has been redesigned a few times now which sets things back each time
-
The classes and their balance has been all over the place and not that exciting usually.
In short, D4 felt like a more mobile mmo based experience with cheap gimmicks and they changed the sauce, and it can never be good cause they designed themselves into a corner. The game just doesn’t work.
It was built as a totally different game that’s trying to morph into whatever fans want and it’s probably best to just go with D5 at this point.
Live Service is a cool concept, but it’s more like Live Redevelopment at this point.
I agree with that. It’s not so bad actually.
But it requires searching the internet for the right videos
Use rain of arrows dude. it uses barrage as a reset tool to rain of arrows. I am also using Smoke Granade to make the build a bit less powerful but also less boring to play.
D4 is a typical rogue like game. Adam Jackson tried to add an endgame like that in WOW called Torghast but it was a complete disaster. That thing just felt like what we have in D4. And I don´t thing this guy was good. He was one of the huge RNG lovers.
I don’t disagree with any of the points you’ve made here but all of them can be traced back to just plain lack of talent and passion. I don’t think the vast majority of the people working on D4 even play the game.
Also, ask yourself this… Do you think the pre-activision blizzard would have allowed diablo 4 to ship in the state that it did? Even now over a year post-launch the game is just “ok”. I don’t think blizzard invented the isometric arpg but they sure did refine it. I expect more from a multi-million dollar company that set the gold standard for the genre of the game they released. Unless of course you consider that the people that made that game and put blizzards name on the map are gone and have been replaced by dispassionate devs that just don’t care.
