This isn’t a knock against those who do, I’m genuinely curious why you play it. I’m mostly a singleplayer gamer, and was originally only interested in the story and campaign, but once I learned about seasons and being able to participate in Season 2, I’ve decided to stick with them. It doesn’t bother me that you have to create a new character every season, because the leveling journey is just as important as getting to the end. And with all the balance changes, a lot of stuff is reworked, and of course everyone starts from scratch anyway. Seasons aren’t more ‘online-focused’ since I’ve played mostly solo and have been able to participate in everything without issue.
Do the seasonal powers / abilities, concepts and themes not appeal to you or make a difference? Trying new stuff is a big part of why I prefer seasons. Does hearing about the vampiric powers like metamorphasis not spark your curiosity? Are you not interested in creating a brand new character (or multiples) every 3 months? It gives me a reason to try new classes and builds, otherwise I probably wouldn’t change if I wasn’t forced to. lol.
Just wondering what the appeal is of playing eternal vs season.
I would think the majority just don’t want to level another character.
I have one toon of each class leveled and min/max’d. I am skipping this season, so i MAY hop on to eternal and just run some dungeons or durial. Treat it like an arcade game and not have to worry about leveling.
Some people just believe in making their min/max’d toon as powerful as they can get it.
Ah, I kind of figured that was a big reason. It doesn’t seem like leveling is that bad in this game and I imagine it gets even easier as you learn more about the mechanics each time you start fresh. I suppose it makes sense that some people just don’t want to do it again and again.
Well “leveling isnt bad” is an opinion based comment. It will probably get easier as time goes on too, but While i agree with you, some people just don’t want to do it again.
It is all perspective, right?
Personally, i like seasons. It really isnt that big of a deal to level now….well it is MUCH easier than preseason.
Most of the arguments I’ve seen are because they don’t want to lose all of their progress they’ve built up. The leveling is one thing, but the fact they lose all of their items and have to start over from scratch is what a lot of eternal players on these forums just don’t want to do. The idea of starting over from scratch every 3 months is basically unacceptable to them. Which I can understand, you’ve built up your character(s), geared them to the nines, and you can take on all the current content with ease, and now it just starts all over again, as if you’ve never played.
Now I’m a forever Seasonal Character myself, I won’t even logon to my Eternal Characters to grab the items from the previous season. I know myself, I’ll never play on Eternal again, so what’s the point in keeping my items? To each their own though.
Yeah, I’m more than likely only going to play one class / character per season so it probably won’t be that big of a deal to level up again each time. If I was to play multiple characters, then I would probably get frustrated and maybe not play season at all. lol
Ah, I didn’t even think about losing all your items. I can see that being a pain, especially for people that don’t have a lot of time or already spent a lot of time farming items, only to have to do it again.
The ultimate purpose of RPG games is role play and fun.
Roles must be distributed and enjoyed according to each job, and fun includes farming, boss raids, dungeon raids, and PVP. The Diablo series is synonymous with hack and slash games.
However, Diablo 4 is boring, slow, and frustrating, and the features are gradually disappearing, and the mechanical robots are… I don’t know who the concept came from, but… they’re so alien.
In seasonal games, a lot of the things that have been achieved will eventually disappear and be transferred to the Eternal server, so it’s better to just be in Eternal. Here, I have fun fighting between PvP guilds and maintaining balance between them.
I play both on seasonal and eternal based on what class / build I want to play at any given time. The seasonal mechanics don’t really interest me beyond the possibility of them getting implemented as permanent additions to the game but I do want the free cosmetics from the battle pass cause why not grab them along the way if I make a new character anyway? Also, if I play a game I mainly play it for the gameplay so I don’t make builds which rely on powers that most likely won’t be there anymore in the near future to ensure that the gameplay I want to play will still be mostly there if I ever want to play it again.
The truth is, diablo doesn’t charge a monthly fee, so they use the inferior mechanic of seasons so they can do less work. Most people prefer to keep the gear and progression they worked hard for. Don’t believe me? Just check wows numbers vs diablo. Stop acting like seasons are a popular feature with anyone but diablo diehards. We should be gearing up to use our shakos and doombringers to tackle new high level content, not having to farm them all over again.
You can tell that those who avoid Seasonal Server don’t even log in everyday on Eternal Realm. All because there’s nothing for them to do. But somehow do post on the forum daily.
I’m mainly Eternal players. Only completing the Seasonal Journey matters to me. However long that takes. I just prefer to mess around with meme builds. Can’t really do that when RNG hates me so much. Worse yet when Seasons have a long timer.
Probably because people are attached to the character they leveled and don’t want it to be throw away.
I used to play both, but I have run out of stuff to do on Eternal. I still use it as a test bed for new theory crafted things I want to try.
Time, would be the other reason. Eternal does not have any time restrictions.
For season 2 compared to S1 - yes. That’s why I played S2. However, this does not hold at all for S3. They don’t really make a difference this time. Everything is just reskinned content from S2. Let me explain. In S2 you had vampiric powers that you put in “vampiric slots” on your character. This part was reskinned to “stone power” that you put in “stone slots” on your pet. Vaults, are reskinned NMD with traps and that’s about it. That’s the WHOLE THEME of S3… then you have Adam Fletcher coming and saying “This is our biggest season yet”… Like, I don’t know man… Is it me, who lives on another planet with a different reality, or it’s Blizzard? Moreover, not a single valuable change in terms of buffing underperforming skills was done. Since the launch of this game you are forced to builds mastery skills on a sorc. And I don’t want to play mastery skills. I want to play core skills. Yet, sorc actually has glyph for mastery skill damage and not a single glyph for core skill damage… 7 months!
In S1 I had time to play only rogue. Then S2 was so much better than S1 that I told myself “Ok, now I will try at least 3 characters and test several builds”. I played rogue, sorc and barb and I started necro 2 days ago which is level 46 now. I tested around ~10 different builds in total. This was absolute hell! I spent at least 30% of my total game time in D4 jumping from mule to mule and managing inventory! AT LEAST 30%! This will be never again! I am not excited at all to make more than 1 character per season, ever again with the stash in it’s current state. And I have no intention of spending a cent more on skins or battle passes until I see significant changes to the base game, which is exactly eternal realm.
Moreover, for me and substantial amount of other players the end game is PVP. They broke this halfway through S2 with the Tears of Blood. Now that there is not a single reason for me to play S3, I will enjoy the next 3 months in actual PVP in eternal, without broken mechanics.
Finally:
There you have it. It’s a new content for eternal as well. It’s truly new, not a reskinned one. You can go and farm the new items, make new builds, test them in both PVE and PVP. All of that in eternal. I don’t see a reason to go and mindlessly grind Duriel again just to experience 2 reskinned parts of S2 that I already played for 3 months.
The only reason I’d ‘Play’ Eternal is 1. To finish all the Side Quests(some day) since my 1st Rogue has the most completed and there’s no “Quest Tracker” functionality(2023/24 sigh) and I won’t waste my time on a mission of redundancy during a Season. 2. To test things post patch with gear/builds I already have before jumping into something without proper data as to whether it will be a waste of time.
Otherwise I think some just don’t want to re-farm all manner of items and have solid builds, twink gear should they wish to lvl an Alt etc.
They don’t suffer from Seasonal FOMO, they have friends/clan that Play Eternal, they PVP and so on.
I’ve had friends as far back to Ladder #2 in D2 who never went to Ladder after the 1st one and D3 who just couldn’t be bothered with Seasons regardless of how easy it was to level up and acquire gear(well…by Season 10 or so, early on it was much more of a grind).
well, let’s make it simple…
you start a new season…you level your character and during that time you get some precious gear and uniques…and at the end of season you go to eternal…
The new season starts and you have to start all over again, quests all over again everything all over again…
There’s a point where you get sick and tired, and even LAZY to start over.
Starting a new char every season is tiresome and it’s a D3 mechanic that shall be or should be ditched for good.
I’m a firm believer that seasons shall consists of open new areas. dimensions, new level caps, new capstone dungeons, new classes, new faces, more paragon points, more permanent glyphs and rewards, not to start over again to play the same content, the same nightmare dungeons, the same hell-tides and the same annoying mechanics like the occultist fiasco and the DURIEL CASINO.
I have 3 shakos and my 3 chars and I don’t wan t to spend hours to get another
I don’t want to do that training level class over again! I just simple Don’t
I think D4 seasons should change and stop imitating diablo 2 and 3 mechanics…
This is a new game, a new era, and new players are coming to the franchise…
But of course…dev’s dont listen… at least they are good pretending they do…
It’s annoying to be forced to make a build that everyone uses cause other builds don’t survive…
Look at ball lighting, the only way sorcerer was good, because of a bugged build that 99% uses because otherwise they die.
I want to clear a t100 NMD with my incinerate build…IMPOSSIBLE
I want to do clear AOZ like other classes do with sorcerer: YEAH RIGHT.
This game needs a lot of work, but the first step is devs to really start listening the community, THE ONES THAT PAY SEASON PASS EVERY SEASON…
