Why people hate Neyrelle so much?

Because it’s trendy to hate nayrelle…makes ppl feel edgy and cool.

Remind me: aren’t blood petals signifiers of Lilith’s corrupting influence? (“Guided by” here can just mean “visited by”.) If the player is corrupted by Lilith, then what explains our decision to destroy her, aka thwart her plan of swallowing her dada? If her swallowing him was so terrifying, doesn’t that mean his power augmenting hers is probably more terrifying still? Or at least the instability that would follow? All of this seems rational.

Also, what explains our deferring to Neyrelle in “capturing” Mephisto, while simultaneously thwarting Lilith’s plan to eat him? What does it say about Mephisto being the “greater threat” as you put it, if what we’ve done is killed the being that would’ve destroyed him… while also handing his safekeeping to the mystery child? Isn’t it rational to assume he manipulated us to do just that - hand him over to Neyrelle? A dilemma.

I think the “wise decision” to defer to her is a mirage, it doesn’t follow from actual repercussions. The player character should’ve been at least as weary of that idea as any other. For all I know, Neyrelle cast some voodoo on us, and just as her mother succumbed to dark forces, the daughter is also succumbing.

I think not “siding with” either demon proves the player character has the right mentality: be weary of the Others. I’m not frankly impressed by the fact that most of them saw Lilith as the problem to confront… because she’s actually wreaking havoc in Sanctuary. She’s driving her followers to murder, and she’s mind-controlling people. She’s physically here, walking among us. What has Mephisto done lately (to Sanctuary) besides grumble sweet nothings in our ears?

Whatever he’s capable of doing, we’re sure to find out thanks to (probably) Neyrelle wandering somewhere in the wilderness, mind more effed up than Frodo’s on his way to Mount Doom, dead people in her wake… all alone with her angst. Yeah, I sure feel safe. Good decision, Nephalem.

She bad because the writing for her was bad.

Can be fixed by better writing that doesn’t rely on tedious crutches and questionable motivations.

-To be fair, I have never played an ARPG where I have ever been impressed with the writing so I’m not bent out of shape about it. My character/story bar for ARPGs is very low and I’m okay with that.

I was wandering if someone point that out when I typed that  You have 1 star good sir.

It’s just not realistic, a young girl that goes through hell, take the soul of a Prime Evil, goes alone in another country, in a world full of dangers… come on… is it supposed a game for adults? Why there’s so much teenage stuff.

Because the target demo for all pop culture = what used to be called “WB”? Just a guess.

Appeal to the ones who will soon make meaningful spending decisions. Longer retention.

Yep, I think it’s a bad idea to target teenagers like this, especially in a video game. If you look at what video games are nowadays, teenagers have seen everything. They’ve dismembered demons in Doom Eternal, fought in several world wars under bombs, in tanks, in planes, in the dirt, battled mafias and cartels, and even fought the police. They’ve already seen everything: blood, gore, and violence.

So, a story about a young girl saving the world feels like it’s missing the mark. Gamers aren’t WB show viewers; they’re gamers. Forcing them to accept this kind of story feels wrong.

Thanks to my teenage years if a Monkey was ever throwing barrels down a building I would be ready. :hamster:

Well, it’s not obvious to me… those ingredients have been in stories since the beginning of time. Young heroes saving the world is probably the most ancient trope of all. Storytime is ultimately targeted at our inner child, because that’s when we fell in love with stories.

In Neyrelle’s case, she’s been through & seen some dark stuff: demonic possession, the killing of her mother (by our hand, sorta), she’s proooobably murdered some people judging by the recent trailer… and she’s probably resigned to die trying to fulfill her “mother’s” wishes. Her age ain’t that important - her gender certainly isn’t.

OTOH she’s hollow, doesn’t seem to have a real personality, with fleshed-out motives, or we’re being asked to wait for it (which doesn’t work bc we’ve spent so much time with her by now). “WB” audiences don’t clamor for “deep characterization”, or so I assume.

If Blizzard didn´t lost everything I can assure you Neyrelle won´t save the day

But I am looking forward to burst her demon version back to hell

The Story needs this dumb action, like every Anime or Horror movie.

Because in reallity all would work together and Mephi never had a chance.

Its like the strange thing, that the D4 story forces you to kill Lillith and all are against her.

But when you rethink it, she would be an mighty ally against the big 3 Evils.

But Diablo goes always this plump way.

I think it’s because her character just isn’t likeable, she’s bratty and lacks depth but the game forces this idea that you have some kind of bond with her which isn’t really something the player feels.

These forced “friendships” that don’t feel like they developed organically during the story just make people dislike the characters they are forced to engage with.

It honestly felt like the scoundrel from D3 had a better origin and “bond” with the player than Neyrelle does with the player in D4… and the Scoundrel’s origin story is a corny comedy skit…

Because story is not patch notes or actual information, personally could not care less. I thought you were talking about a forum member at first from the title [@Nyurei]

I hate her as the story is crap.

Bad writing is bad. She should never have been part of the story let alone a main character.

Neyrelle isn’t the dumbest person out there.
Her plan has a good basis: The part of trapping Mephisto inside a soul stone and bury it somewhere dark where no one knows where it is.

It kept Diablo, Ba’al and Mephisto at bay for the entire dark exile. It failed due to the Zakarum being bunch of idiots and building their church over Mephisto’s burial site, believing the lord of hatred won’t corrupt them.

The dumb part by Neyrelle is believing she alone can withstand the lord of Hatred himself. That sheer will and determination can win the day, the folly of youth believing you can be undefeated. It goes hand to hand with her arrogance believing she knows best.

I’m all for her story ending in failure, by the end of the campaign Mephisto is free and Hatred once again unleashed on Sanctuary.

If the writers had any sense for a good story, this is exactly what would happen, but we don’t have much evidence that they do. I’m almost certain that she’s set up to be if not the hero, at least a hero. The passable version of this story is she goes evil and causes a lot of harm but at the end somehow regains enough sanity to thwart Mephisto at the last minute by throwing herself into the story equivalent of Mount Doom. The bad version, which I personally would place greater odds on being what we get, is where despite some adversity and a little torment she basically wins the day in the end, probably more or less single handedly, with us players being mainly passengers along for the ride to witness her awesome amazingness.

She’s not the main character we the players are the main characters in the story.

She is Mary Sue in an American film
