Necromancers are magic users and for some reason we can’t use a staff but we can use big a$$ swords? Be serious…
They dont use blunt weapons… they also dont use the same magic as mages.
Necromancy is a part of magic it just doesn’t make sense to me
Its not the same. Mages draw on mana to manipulate the elements. Necromancer drawpower from life energy, blood.
Think of it this way. Magic is like a engine. One can run on gasoline the other diesel. They may both be engines but are fueled by entirely different sources. So are not compatible with each other.
It has never made sense to me that a Necromancer would ever use a staff. Since Necromancers deal with death and the idea of a staff comes from light, life, and healing… Moses had the first staff… Just confusing.
Well, a staff could be used to channel “blood magic”, just as a sorcerer uses a staff to channel the elements. I would say it’s certainly pretty silly to not just let them use staves.
i mean a wand can be a blunt weapon if you come up into melee with it just playin of course lol
Thats not how it works though… i mean then you could just as well say a scythe is just a staff with a blade…
The lore says no blunts for necros… though Rathma the founder of Necromancers had a staff… i guess blizzard forgot there own lore.
My point was one magic is not the same as another. That the rules for one dont apply to the other.
Ah i forgot to study up on my Necromancy in highschool.
It’s a silly change.
What change? its been this way in diablo lore since Diablo 2.
Same lore that prevents mages from using shields.
Silly change referring to the general gaming norm.
I agree that it is kind of a weird thing when games limit which classes can use which weapon. Especially when it seems kind of arbitrary.
In this case I think it is just to simplify which stats they put on which weapons and how they design the looks of each weapon. If they each weapon type to 1-3 classes it is easier for them to put stats on the weapon because they don’t have to worry about how that weapon synergy with every class.
Also I am pretty sure that in the same way that all the armor pieces go together to make a set (the Runic Armor Set for example) I am pretty sure some of the weapons are designed as parts of the set. So again it is easier for them to build those weapon sets around a limited number of armor sets. We already know from images of the shop MTX that the Necromancer set they showed includes not only 5 armor pieces but also a sword and a shield that match the sets theme. Looking at some of the shields I found on my Necro it looked to me like a few of them very closely matched some of the armor sets and were designed to go with them. I didn’t look as closely to the other various weapons but I think it might be the same case for some of them.
So yeah that is my guess. Easier for them to balance and visually design the staff if only the mage and Druid can use it. The one hand sword if only the Barbarian, Rogue, and Necromancer can use it. The two hand sword if only the Barbarian and Necro can use it etc.
wdym they can use maces and 2 handed maces
This thread is 2 years old. At the time of this thread, necros could not equip maces.
A mace is a blunt weapon
