Why kill characters in HC during regular missions because of falling floors?

I’m a dedicated Diablo player with 10+ years of experience playing Diablo 2, 3, and 4 in Hardcore mode. I understand and accept the challenges. I had hundreds of fallen characters. I have tolerated hundreds of bugs, disconnects, and lousy development decisions. But what happened today is just stupid.

My character died in the room with two hands reaching toward each other because the floor randomly crumbled and collapsed in the dark. This happened in a cramped room filled with mobs during regular missions almost at the end of the Vessel of Hatred expansion campaign. How could I expect such death in a game where you have never experienced anything like that before? And why was it even necessary to kill characters in HC mode in such a way? The lack of visibility and control on the PS5 compared to PC made the situation even more frustrating.

Obviously, the game development team doesn’t care about HC mode, so it’s time to say goodbye to the Diablo series and stop wasting time.

I really wish I could get a refund, but Sony’s refund policy is non-existent, and Blizzard doesn’t care if you purchased their brown stuff somewhere else.

Just needed to say this again to create a visibility for the Diablo team, maybe they will eventually realize that it is stupid to add such mechanics to the main storyline.

When first playing the new act with a softcore character, I was astonished as well, as I couldn’t intuitively identify any visual indicator as to which floor tiles collapse. The dialog prior to the event mentions something like that happening, but that doesn’t make it any better, if players have to resort to “trial & error”, which inevitably is no option for hardcore characters :unamused:

Assuming that someone played the whole campaign with a hardcore character, dying to something like that after tens of hours must feel really bad…

I’ve wasted 50 hours playing this char. I usually played on weekends after a long week of work, as it was a relaxing experience for me. I was always prepared to die because I stash my gear and restore my character to the same level within 5 to 10 hours. I even accepted it when Echo of Lilith killed my character at level 99 with just one hit during the first or second season. However, this situation is just infuriating and ridiculous. I’ve been reading other players’ stories about the Dark Citadel and similar experiences.
I have been playing this game since I was 9, starting with Diablo 1—Hellfire. Now, at 35, I suppose I am too old for it.
