Why is the gauntlet seasonal-only (i.e. not on eternal)?

It’s the only thing in the game I can think of that is permanent but only on seasonal realm.

No reason it wouldn’t work on eternal realm that I can think of.

Doesn’t seem to make much sense.

Has dev team ever mentioned this?

Thanks!

Because buy the battle pass.

I mean… do you think the gauntlet is a bigger incentive to buy the battle pass?

Than level 200 bosses, masterworking, tempering, and the pit combined, all of which will be on eternal?

I really don’t think that is the reason tbh.

Only thing that comes to mind is it being more fair toward the Seasonal Realm then the Eternal Realm. Everyone starts over from scratch on the Seasonal Realm, now yes the people who play more often have the advantage, but that would be the case even in the Eternal Realm.

So from this perspective, it makes more sense why it’s Seasonal Only, as watching a bunch of Eternal players go in first day it launches with completely decked out characters wouldn’t have much meaning behind it. The leaderboards would just be a ‘eh whatever’ kind of deal.

Now could they add the Gauntlets without the leaderboards onto the Eternal Realm? Sure no problem. Not sure it’s what people would want, but I have no doubt they could do it.

They have mentioned Gauntlet is for season only. They may add this in Eternal realm if in future they see there is business opportunity of roll out battlepass in Eternal realm.

We don’t know how this game will evolve under new management, so never say never

If the gauntlet is exactly the same as it is now I won’t be playing it in season 4. It was fun for the first 2 weeks but damn did it get old fast. So you’re not missing out on much.

Perhaps they didn’t launch it on eternal because there simply aren’t enough weekly players to make it worth the effort. They’d have to make a separate leaderboard as eternal would have the advantage at the start of season but seasonal would soon over take when the seasonal powers kick in.

Gauntlet was fun for first 2 weeks, but I don’t like that content any more as it was grindy without good reward. Every time you make minor mistake like forgot to click the boss shrine or turn to wrong corner it ruins your run and you have to restart the 10minutes content again. It make things worse as you cant exit the dungeon without exit the game, if I remember correctly. Didnt play that for a long time.

Worst thing is i have to compete with players with wide screen monitor as sorcerer as they can TP out of the map. The only thing I learn from Gauntlet is the next time my monitor stop working I should purchase the ultra wide screen version :expressionless:

wide screen players can see further, but no they cant tele further. tele has a set distance and that is set so that those players with ultra widescreen monitors do not have an advantage.

They can this season, maybe they cant in S4. But there will be clever players going to figure out how to abuse their extra map visibility from their wide monitor screen.

Below is the season 4 patch note addressing this issue, but I felt it is too late as I have played enough of gauntlet in S3 so may not want to try them any more.

Miscellaneous

  • Traversal skills such as Leap and Teleport can now easily travel the distance to go to the edge of the screen. This will improve parity with Mouse and Keyboard players.
    • Note: with Ultrawide monitors, you may not traverse to the edge of your monitor as traversal abilities have a set maximum distance they can travel to.

One thing I tested in PTR, with controller the TP distance is same as mouse, but with enchantment TP the distance is shorter than mouse. Blizzard just fix half of balancing issue between controller and mouse players. As usual they need more than one patch to fix an issue which reported one year ago.

yes the s4 patch allows you to travel to the edge of the screen. in s3 you cant travel as far. they actually increased travel distance in s4 and made it so ultra wide monitors have no benefit. they currently have no benefit either.

I think the patch note say controller can travel to edge of screen as mouse player in S3 can just TP any place they want by click the part of map even it is out of the boundary of a player with standard screen size if they have the ultra wide screen. This patch also set a maximum distance of TP so mouse player cant click the place not visible to players with standard screen in S4.

Will have to test whether this only apply in normal TP but not TP enchantment. In PTR the enchantment travel is much shorter in controller compare to TP by clicking the far distance with mouse.

correct they improved the controller functionality of tele in s4 so the m&k isnt worlds ahead, but even currently there is no difference between what you can do with a normal monitor and an ultra widescreen. its only a visual difference

You can search Roxy Diablo 4, she is a very good sorcerer and active in Gauntlet. Some of her TP I believe is out of screen, for example the week 3 gauntlet map which has lot of opportunity to tp across to another room which not suppose to happen with normal monitor. It is hard to verify from a video uploaded with video width adjustment but sometimes I just feel that those are offscreen TP.

dont worry they arent. there has always been a distance limit on tele. the note they included is letting those who didnt know, know. it isnt an update or change, just a note
