Why is Barb Damage so low?

Like we’re squishier and lower dmg than like all the other classes. Why though?

My guess is you didn’t try other classes, and are actually responding to the fact that ALL damage is low, I have so far leveled a sorc and a barb and tried multiple builds of each, and they all feel slow, even with gear at these levels.

If you really are having relatively low damage (and by relative i mean that literally, as in compared to other barb players) then you are definitely doing something wrong, cause i made a sorc first, it felt slow and struggled a bit early on as fire (supposed to be the dps spec) and then leveled a barb and the barb dps was WAY more than the sorc, like in the time i completed the campaign with the sorc i was lvl 18, and my hits were doing roughly 180 damage for core abilities and critting to 300, but i was doing 180 damage with Double Strike on my barb at lvl 10. Stuff gets 1-shot by the barb where as the sorc has to build up burn stacks and hit fireballs

its Diablo, just get more/better gear

My level 5 rogue was hitting harder than my whirlwind barbarian at level 18. Experiment with builds, some of them are pretty powerful.

Bleed/thorns WW is doing good for me. I just dont like how with bleed you basically have to kill enemies twice

The problem isnt directly the damage, its that barbarian does very poorly against bosses because of all the stuff bosses drop on the ground that dont affect ranged characters and because barbarian has to take a bunch of points in defensives so they dont instantly die to abilities they can’t dodge because they are literally in melee range.

The problem with barbarian damage is people make it lower because they have to compensate with defensive skills, which means less points in offensive skills. Ranged characters can spend less points in defensive skills.

How? Getting more/better gear, or the resources to make/buy it, generally also involves XP, meaning you level, meaning the monsters level too. First 8 levels on my barb were fine but 9-15 has felt progressively worse.

if you cant beat a boss, either do sidequests or i guess if u cant then try a different build. i beat the first boss with rend when i failed it 3 times before with i think i still had ww. then i got some good drops and steamrolled everything until act1 end

I played with 2 other sorc in my group, one went ice other went lightning, we ended to doing our own thing eventually and me as a barb I can definitely see that I was being carried, I feel like barb is too weak as well, and i think its because the developers created the expertise system for the barb, barbs has to work their way up their damage with this system so i think early game we are weak but later in the game we get stronger, I feel like the numbers we get from the expertise should be reduced and moved to skill damage. I think barb’s damage is too heavily depended on the expertise system. I dont know this is just my thoughts. Maybe im just playing barb wrong.

I literally just picked random abilities with my barb, frenzy and dual strike, and then i went the shout that gives resource generation and movement speed. Leveled it to 10 piece of cake, never even getting below half health, found a nice 2her and then completely respecced for less than 100g and went rend and whatever the other bleed one is and used that up until 20, literally walk up to things, press LMB, PRESS RMB, walk away cause they die.

Even on bosses, shout walk up, LMB, RMB a couple of times, tank a couple of hits, back up… rinse repeat. I actually did more dps than my fire or my cold sorc because they can’t move and cast so have to keep moving.

Just solo, when you run around in a group the mobs are scaled for you so they are tougher.

how is the barbie vs, say, 2 hydras?

Personally sorc is doing more damage and is way more fun to play. Try using ice blades or hydra. Build around them and you will see how strong sorc are. My favorite is ice blades though, very tanky build.

I wouldn’t say it’s low. But you need synergy, and a defined ‘build’. My upheaval clears rooms in one shot, if not leaving very little health on mobs.

Sorc is much more fun to play than barb from what we can see so far in the game. I’m sure barb will be fun in the end game when more legendary affixes are accessible.

Seems fine to me as long as I focus on HotA + ancients.

I was running Combat Frenzy or lunging strike (more so frenzy for weapon switching procs), Furious HotA, ground stomp, Mighty war cry, Tactical iron skin and Ancients.

WW was awesome when I had mass groups of enemies to kill, since I found boots that sucked enemies in and a ring that lets me spawn tornados. It becomes crap with less monsters, and there isn’t much you can do to get around that currently. With enough density, perma WW + HotA spam will be a possible build again.

This is sorta the problem though. Why shouldn’t barbarian be fun the entire time? People keep talking about how “it will be strong later” or “you just need a good build”. Its low level content - it should require player skill, not the ‘correct’ abilities, and you absolutely shouldn’t be required to grind out specific gear for a level 15 dungeon. I don’t understand why people keep acting nonchalant about barbarian being weak before level 20; It’s not good that a character feels worse than the others or that the others are stronger earlier - it should feel good to play a barbarian at every level.

This is a false statement… sorry wait for guides on how to build… i’ve seen a bard with insane dps and unkillable armor / damage reduction Synergies…

You just need to get better items my barbarian absolutely destroys everything.

Exactly, classes should have an equal experience especially in the early levels.

Maybe because they are an endgame class capped at lvl25, could be something else though!
