The death animation it causes enemies to have is ALWAYS a decapitation. That’s just silly and annoying. For normal human sized enemies you can imagine you are sniping them in the throat which is cool but for all others especially large creatures that you shoot in the mid-section the head pops off for no reason. I can’t stand it.
OCD and gaming is hard.
I don’t like bone spear because it looks weak. it just look weak for me despiste that super high damage
Also, have to slowly splint bones around mob is annoying for me. never a fan since beta launch. but again it’s the best dps build
I just really miss the sound effect and look for Diablo 2’s Bone Spear. Same with Teeth (“Bone Splinters”).

To me it is just the most boring of all the options Necro has (except maybe decompose/blight which isn’t that exciting either). Played a bit on a Bone Spear alt last night to determine if I like it enough to go that route for season 1 and I’m just not sure. Also while leveling it is definitely better at killing mobs fast compared to all the other builds I have done it also feels much weaker vs. bosses.
I wish Blight was more like Devouring Plague from WoWs Shadow Priest spec. The dot pool feels clunky.
Blight is great. what sucks is that you have to wait for it to stack. It takes too long time to get dmg. I once get into that and have to go back to my main build

It also cant crit and therefore cant do crit dmg.
You are basically removing two multipliers from your skill.
DoTs need to crit to be viable
They should add aspect that make it explode on hit or auto cast corpse explosion with it’s trail then it will be fun. Explosion everywhere
The impact on blight can crit, but it’s almost not there because of how backloaded the skill is.
Got bored and swapped Cult leader and Golem board for scent of death and flesh eater boards with wither board.
Dot damage is pretty decent if you fill the right damage buckets, but they definitely need to crit to be competitive with other Necro builds.
Always thought the Wither legendary node would be the place for it, add crit chance and crit damage only for dots as well as the effect it currently has as it feels lackluster for how far away it’s placed etc.
Don’t need 400% crit damage on them. Even just what you’d get from the Legendary node paired with the small amounts you have on gear (if using a dot setup) would likely be enough.
High crit for shadowblight procs is a different story, but you’d likely be using Sever on your bar at that point
If DoTs stuck to enemies instead of an enemy having to stand in relatively small pools it would go a long way toward making them more viable. I run Sever and I experimented with adding Blight to my build to help stack shadow damage but I spaced right back out of it after 10 or so minutes due to the ridiculously tiny Blight kiddie pool that enemies refuse to stand still in.
That would take care of one problem but I agree DoTs either need their damage increased significantly to offset their lack of crit or they need to simply be given the chance to crit both initially and with every tick. Anyone who relies on DoT damage is already at a HUGE disadvantage because to push content generally you either one shot or get one shot (not a fun mechanic overall btw).

Howl from Below LvL 56
Sacred Unique Gloves
653 Item Power
Instead of detonating immediately, CORPSE EXPLOSION summons a Volatile Skeleton that charges at random enemy and explodes. CORPSE EXPLOSION’s damage is increased by 37% [30-40]% (Necromancer Only)
This dropped the other night with my Necro at LvL56. Great fun. It creates homing skeletons that rush towards targets and explode. They’ll even run offscreen to find targets. If you have a bunch of corpse left over and only one target all the skeletons will home in on.
the issue of the Bone Spear skill being boring because of its limited effect. The current Bone Spear is quite small and doesn’t have much impact.
I think it would be more exciting if the they made the Bone Spear bigger and added a new feature. For example, when the Bone Spear hits a target, it could explode, splinter and each splinter does small explosion as well and cause damage to multiple enemies in the area. Alternatively, they could make it automatically trigger the Corpse Explosion skill when the Bone Spear hits an enemy.
And then we can combine with the Howl skill from below. This combination would make the gameplay much more interesting.
Ahhh, that’s where corpse tendrils come into play. One shot a monster with one bone spear to gain first corpse then apply corpse tendrils on this corpse which pulls all monsters to that point within range, apply decrify on them then bone spear the group which usually leads to all of them dying at once. Works well for me.
I personally like it. It feels like a reverse impale. If you make sure you have plenty of movement speed and extra charges of evade, it almost feels like you are playing a D3 demon hunter. You just work at being at optimal range rather than point blank to have your extra shards do maximum damage.
