Why grinding a Season's activities if items obtained don't persist?

Season mechanics that dont goto eternal in some form are a waste of player time and dev resources.

All hearts gone at S1 end. All slots on all season gear become basic.

I’m not sure why people have that expectation if they’ve been around a while. It depends on how much break there is between seasons, of course, but D3 had a lot of crossover. On the gripping hand, though, we all know there are jerks out there who would get the seasonal stuff and overpower eternal just to rank people in PvP zones who would stand no chance if they didn’t do the same.

That isn’t even a Blizzard or Diablo thing, that is just a human nature thing. D3’s lates seasons showed that the idea of using them as grounds for testing out big and fun ideas can work quite well. That isn’t so easy in Eternal, again because of humans.

Imagine they were trying out the hearts in eternal, and there was no seasons setup. And then, just for sake of discussion, let’s pretend Blizzard couldn’t get it to work well enough. So they remove it. What would happen? Virtual pitchforks and torches. And why not?

But with seasons, the expectation is set up front that seasonal things will (usually) stay seasonal. Even then some people will whine and moan, but the expectation was at least set.

Well, to me that expectation was not set. I didn’t know that what you grind in Seasons doesn’t transfer. Yes, maybe it’s a ā€œmeā€ problem, but I’m by no mean a casual gamer, so if this expectation missed me, then I can only assume that many many more people who are more casual than I, and who aren’t in the forums or don’t check the fine prints, will also be severely disappointed. Basically Blizzard is setting itself up for another drama.

There should be an in-game note on seasonal items that clearly state that they’ll disappear entirely at the end of the Season. I hope we can at least all agree that it should be more clear and transparent.

I understand that a new season is a clean start but if you work hard and get a few valuable items it would be good to be allowed to keep a dozen items safe in the seasonal realm to use rather than spend weeks getting them only to see them disappear into the eternal realm.
My mythic uniques were transferred to the eternal realm but then devalued down.
Yes move your character, but having a seasonal cache that you can place a small number of items in would reward long serving players for hard work. If some items are not going to exist in the next season just post that and we won’t save those.
If you find a rare 4 ga in the eternal it’s yours forever. So giving seasonal players a few items to keep forever is a reward non seasonal players expect.
Oh but what about new players, they start from 0. As everyone does in life but we don’t take old people’s savings away when they retire so 18 yr olds are on a level playing field.

Dude, this post is over a year old. Since last year Blizz clearly showed they didn’t give a crap about Eternal following 3 soft resets in a row.

Blizzard clearly wants Eternal to be seasonal as well basically, they just didn’t officially acknowledge it.

This happens because community decided that seasons are fine and it’s fine that they reset the game after 3 months each time.

So here we are. Go farm 1000 hours now and you destroy them in 2 months and farm again the same items with the same stats in next season.

No, this happens because Blizz released a game designed around seasons. It was known for many, many moons before release that seasons would be an integral part of the game. Crying about it now isn’t going to make them change their minds.

p.s. Necroed a thread from a year ago. Really?

Yes, but, ā€œEternalā€ is certainly confusing for everyone since it’s in opposition to ā€œSeasonalā€. Blizz should make it clear that Eternal is not that, but rather ā€œBaseline Seasonalā€.

Over a year later and a new expansion and people still don’t get it.

What? How is calling it Eternal confusing? It’s called Eternal because it is, well, ETERNAL - stuff there lasts forever. It is not ā€˜baseline seasonal’, whatever the heck that is supposed to mean.

We’re not talking rocket surgery or brain science here.

IKR? I mean, we’re all born ignorant, but you really have to work at it to stay that way.

I agree with how it should be, but it’s not the case. Eternal was reset 3 times in a row, making it, you know, not Eternal?
So while I agree that Eternal should be what it says it is, Blizzard doesn’t treat it this way at all, but rather as a ā€œbaseline seasonalā€. Hence why I’m saying it’s confusing for people. It says X, but it’s Y. People play it expecting X, but they get Y every season.

Did your characters die? Disappear? Did you lose any items? Your paragons reset to zero? No. Did some things change because the game mechanics were reworked? Yes. But your stuff is still there, you didn’t restart with nothing (like Seasonal heroes), hence Eternal.
