They are adding mercs to WoW.
ESO and SWTOR added mercs, and the moment they were added your own character that you control was needed to be nerfed due to the fact you have this overpowered balls of stats following you around.
Why do people want mercs in Diablo 4 to basically nerf your own power, how is that fun. losing power and having it put in a stupid NPC that will solo die to butcher or some nonsense like that.
the addition of mercs in SWTOR or ESO is what made me quit those games, and wow finally adding it for delves will probably be the coffin for me in that game as well.

Completely different games. Did you ever play D2 or D3? By no means did you need a merc/follower, but they did help just a smidge through their usefulness. They also didn’t nerf the characters because of them.
Take a deep breath, realize that merc/followers work differently in ARPGs than they do with MMORPGs and see how you like it. Worst case scenario you never play the game again and you find something else to play.

modern games will def balance (make us weaker) based on the existence of a merc.

If the Mercs come with some form of utility like salvage gear or something it will be nice. If it is a stat stick like the S3 robot then some will probably be happy others won’t.
Based on the fact MMORPGs balance around it, yet no ARPG ever has? Making a huge assumption there, just saying.

ehh i dont care about the pet grabbing items for you, but to deny the fact that they balance power around the existence of mercs is just lying.
if they test a boss and a person with a healer merc can solo it with ease, where one with no merc cant solo it… they assume the majority will use the healer merc so they make the boss harder… defacto making it even worse for non merc players.
you cant compare a game like d2 or arcade game like d3 to what D4 mercs will be like.
they will balance world bosses on the fact 10+ players can show up each with their own merc, dont be delusional.

but this is the kid that cant differentiate between games. he thinks everything labeled as arpg by google is valid comparison to eachother. like ff7 remake and diablo 4.

1.) I dont like mercs either
2.) SWTOR had mercs at launch, not later. They were a part of the base game and impossible to live without because they were a part of your quests. So your comment about quitting after they were added makes no sense. You would have been quitting by level 10 right after buying the game.

just deny my obvious logic and suffer IG, people should be against mercs, they are terrible for the balance of the game.

the companions from D3 were great and having something like that in D4 would be nice
the mercs in D2 were useless they tend to die in 2 or 3 hits requiring you to spend more gold hiring another useless merc

I love mercs.
Bring them on.
I do think it should be a build choice whether to bring a merc however. Like, add a “Lone Wolf” choice where the Merc stays in town to help you there, giving you a buff instead, to compensate for not having it around during combat.
If they solo die to butcher, then maybe more power needs to be transfered.
Anyway, D2 mercs were great.
D3 followers were crap, since they barely did anything on their own. They were just buff bots.
A good Mercenary system is one of the few additions to D4 that could convince me to buy the next expansion tbh.

We’ll agree to disagree. In the history of any Diablo-esque ARPG they have never tuned the content around having an merc available to the player. Players can one-shot content in the game literally right now with a variety of builds.
Even without these one-shot builds you could easily kill a world boss on your own, without help from anyone. I know I can, I literally have. It took about 8 minutes but it was absolutely possible. ARPGs, especially D4, work differently than games built around a merc meant to actually be useful and viable in a fight.
Regardless feel free to keep speculating, well before anything concrete comes out, as most people tend to on these forums. I’ll continue to be more objective and ask questions as more information becomes available.

A mercenary is just a glorify minion. Blizzard will NEVER tune it so merc can solo content without players input or engagement. Therefore the only use a merc has is the utility provided. I would love a merc whose only purpose is to pick up gold and materials off the floor.

Last I checked, I could still use Shako and Evernight together to gain +8 skills.

I don’t personally - that is what pet classes are for.

Is this another case of “I do not like something so no one should have it.”

OK now explain to me how I get the construct in the eternal realms so I can use it there
If mercenaries are going to add that much power to the player character, they will nerf the merc not the player character.
