Compared to D3, Last Epoch, and Wolcen.
It dawned on me today, this game just feels like a slog.
The more I level the more it feels like a slog fest.
I’ve given it two honest tries, i just can’t get past the slog to get hooked.
It’s your fault because you have big expectation …
Lower your expectation so you can enjoy this…thing
I havnt played in a while, but when i used to run NMD’s, the only words going over and over in my head were " WHAT A SLOG "
I finally realised the game is just one big , mindless slog…and stopped playing
Aiyo, here, 20 chars!
D4 is kind of fun compared to doing something like physical labor.
Thats a win right?
Because it’s a cash grab developed by people who have no clue how to design an arpg.
It’s the blind leading the blind. They put more effort into sensitivity readers than into the actually finding experienced devs
I don’t know if this was a post in search of serious answers, but here’s my analysis
The big one is poor itemization
- After like level 70 the odds of you getting anything that’s a significant upgrade is almost nothing.
- It is mentally exhausting to parse out what items are good and bad. This is largely due to the wordy and conditional nature of every affix in the game.
- It’s a bad Skinner Box. If you actually go and read B.F Skinner’s original works on motivation he broke it down between a button that always gave a reward, never gives a reward, and sometimes gives a reward - and found the sometimes gives a reward button got the most clicks. In this game, you eventually stop getting rewards since nothing is an upgrade. Thus you eventually come to your senses and just stop pushing the button. In summary for a skinner box to be effective, it actually needs to pay out sometimes.
The other bad parts are that the game has lots of downtime
- Backtracking empty NMDs to carry stones to unlock doors is not fun
- Timed bars to do anything - eg rescuing a prisoner I need to just sit and wait. Why can’t I just instantly click it and have it be done? Ignoring the fact every dungeon shouldn’t have these objectives anyways.
- The game just has an extreme number of micro-time sinks like this that add up and slow everything down
- Pretty limited ways outside the rogue to really stack movespeed so you’re just not ever really flying around fast. There’s that druid shred build that’s really fast as well. Too bad if you play anything else I guess.
My final complaint is WT4 is sort of a “Okay, do it all again” moment. Find all the same gear you already have just better and get the same legendary powers on it. It’s boring. There should be stuff to chase that only drops in WT4 or something like that. I mean there should be more to chase in general. And the number of uniques in this game is just awful. How many of you got the same unique drop over and over from 1 - 75 and nothing else? I know in PoE there’s tons of useless uniques but at least each time I get one it’s something new.
