Why does Diablo 2 feel more enjoyable

The point in Diablo 2 was the goal to use spell and stat points.

Here, if I level, I get to pick what node I want(+5 stat node, whoa) . No more spell points to use. My spells apparently are maxed out and I rely solely on gear that I cannot trade for.

25 year old design concepts that somehow did it better than d4? Lol. Resists dont even friggin work in d4 bro wtf are you smoking? The gear is bland too. "Oh look another %dmg gain aspect so fun!

I don’t know man… there is a whole generation of zoomers going back and playing our retro games and talking about how good they are. I think it’s easy to look past some of the jank when there is good game feel elsewhere. And sure, not everyone is going to feel that way, and it’s ok too. But I don’t think it’s just rose tinted glasses, good games are good.

Yeah, I think they missed the mark and why there is Diablo 3 criticism. It’s not because the game played badly, it’s mechanically fantastic. It was because you are gg geared after 24 hours. The gear progression was broken and this is due to a plethora of reasons I could go into but it will turn into a dissertation. But what they did do, to patch up these problems, was create an esporty arcade game to motivate play. This is by adding timers and things like challenge rifts, etc. It wasn’t in the loot hunt anymore really.

All they needed to do was make it about the loot hunt again, and keep the mechanics if they insist on dungeon clearing to be the way the game is played.

But in Diablo 4, you permanently feel like you’re level 12 in the other Diablo games. The goal of the game is to spend 300 hours and hopefully get back to the power you felt at level 5. It’s insane, when you think about it.

No one was asking to feel weak for hundreds of hours, tho I’m certain there are a few people that enjoy it. That’s not what the complaints about D3 were. I feel they don’t understand the critiques of D3 if this is their answer.

Difference in D4? How many hours loged total and 2 shakos and no grandfathers so not seeing a big difference if anything items are more rare on D4

One game was made by Blizzard Entertainment.

The other by Activision Blizzard.

So, naturally, one game was amazing and revolutionary while the other game was just disappointing.

No difference,

That’s why people are crying.

D2 doesn’t feel more enjoyable, and all of your points in this thread apply to D2 as well except for the fact that D2 has chat rooms and a trading economy supported entirely by bots.

Of course they got to get you to pay more money somehow stash tabs to inc 5 dollars each

Also, where tf are mercenaries? Paid shop content later? Weird no one talks about them missing. Would add another fun layer of gearing, skills for them, extra inventory space, ect.

Yes but we didnt have discord during D2 time. A fact that everyone glosses over conveniently.

We learn from almost every other modern game that discord always trumps ingame social solutions. Devs spend a ton of time creating social tools that go largely unused because Discord is better and focused solely on these toolsets.

D2 is the better game. Ppl loved d2 LoD but blizz thought it a good idea to scrap that and make the abomination that is d3 which didnt even work properly as a game when you played through it.

And now they remade pre RoS d3 with an open world, less content and systems than d3 had after 10 years of developement, somehow less skill variety and choice. So its 2 steps back from d2 at this point.

I cant do another NM dungeon just to find another 20% dmg with barrier up legendary. Its so friggin bad its embarassing.

I never traded with bots. I traded with friends and real people. Most of the stuff I had was self found or traded amongst buds and it was a blast to be able to do that. Much better than the alternative we have now of basically no trading.

Agreed - the ability to get GG gear in D3 was too fast. It had other issues including extremely high damage multipliers and way too many difficulty levels.

To the point, not everyone uses discord and wants to download to use it for just a game.

This seems to be why Diablo 2 is more enjoyable because of the social aspect that it has.
Diablo 4, I need to get that from a 3rd party platform? No thanks.

Yeah because games had lower standards back then. Imagine D2 being released today.

People would smear poo on the walls in protest of such a shallow gameplay loop with such a stingy loot table.

You know its true. Some redditor would make a post about how many thousands of hours it takes for rune drops, and everyone would boycott until Blizz turned the game into D3.

Ok, so go play that game. They recreated this entire game for the 40 year old can’t-let-go crowd…so go play it. I don’t know what more you could possibly want Blizzard to do.

Yet you’re perfectly happy to do 3000 Mephisto or Pindleskin or Baal runs in a row without any gear upgrades.

That explains why my room is stinky atm…

Well League of legends, heroes of newerth, being DoTA clones, which also spawned the subgenre of auto battlers like TFT, DoTA chess, etc

Tower defense genre as a whole.

I’m sure there is others too. It was definitely influential to many games.
