Why does Blizzard hate Meteor?

Seriously.

Every other Sorc build you spam your resource spender. Chain Lightning, Ball Lightning, Firewall, Fireball, Ice Shards…

Meteor? Needs a Unique hat that gives it a damn cooldown, and then you abuse cooldown reduction mechanics through Ice Blades to make it work. Oh, and you need a hat that’s near the 6 second cooldown and not the 12. Sheesh.

Why does it have to be so difficult? I just want to spam Meteors.

Anyone else feel this way?

Blizzard just hate sorc in general. lol

The problem of Meteor is not the cd as I don’t feel it has cd at all with 6 second Helm roll. It is the delay time of dropping the meteor even you pick the passive it stills too slow. Very often in higher tier Dungeon I got killed by mobs while they waiting for the Meteor drop from skys :expressionless:

the unique makes each cast throw out 4 meteors at zero mana cost on top of the damage increase. which allows you to get 4 casts in 1. This allows you to do other things. It’s a hell of a unique. but if you want to spam it then just don’t take the unique. It’s not required. I also have no problem surviving and hitting mobs with meteor. i have a ton of cc built in. and i don’t use fire nor frost barrier.

I mean it has a super high mana cost and drops a whole one meteor each time you cast it.

Meanwhile, with Coronet you drop four, with extra skill ranks, plus two instead of one with each proc of Enhanced or the enchantment. With maximum CDR the cooldown can be 1.5s. Last season people were hitting 3.5s easily. Considering the mana cost of Meteor, you’d be hard pressed to keep up with the number of Meteors the Coronet can generate by casting it manually.

Using it as a cooldown procs protection, to say nothing of also allowing you to use a second spender since you don’t need mana for Meteor. It’s a fabulous item. The thing that honestly holds it back is Meteor itself - the damage is bugged and does way less than the tooltip claims it does, which you can easily see for yourself if you test on a dummy. X’Fal’s procs outperform it by a very healthy margin, which is why the real dirty secret of Meteor builds is that X’Fal’s carries it. The DoT Meteor leaves has a high LHC and procs X’Fal’s at a very healthy rate.

It’s a bit hard to get a 6 second helm roll. The best one I’ve seen so far is 7.something. A 6 second range is too much, I think.

I personally love the Starfall Coronet and don’t think turning Meteor into a short cooldown is the end of the world but the roll value range on the unique affix is definitely ridiculous, 6-12 is a night and day difference. Aside from the unique there are a lot of other problems with Meteor including the time it takes to make impact and the fact that sometimes you have to “waste” it to kill a single stray mob that wasn’t in the initial impact radius. But by far the biggest problem isn’t with any one spell in particular but with the fact that sorcerers deal significantly less single target damage and have substantially worse defensives than virtually any other class. The fundamental class imbalance in D4 is what makes it unplayable at the end game level unless you use one of a handful of broken builds. There is zero build diversity because there is no balance.

Starfall coronet allows for a semi spammable skill to proc protection so theres something to consider. Outside of ice blades (kind of allows protection spam; better on the dummy than actual targets. Not as consistant for the most part) is there anything else that can do that now?

Damage is too low, how the hell D4 meteor fits the so called power fantasy when your meteor is weaker than a mace swing? You see them deal damages on the 120m+, while you get 2-4m per meteor at most. Pathetic

I’m sorry to inform you but you are playing the wrong Diablo. Meteor build is only allowed to be good in D3 (the wizard has a helmet that has the same power as starfall coronet but with no cooldown). If only devs knew lol

Heh yeah and it took them 10 years to give us that helmet in D3.
