It’s a known fact the game has practically an infinite level of flaws, from 1shots off screen to resistances not mattering to wild lag. So why play hardcore?
Honest question, I’d like to understand your mindset.
Thank you.

Softcore is to boring to play, might aswell not play the game at all then… thats my take
Because there are zero stakes in eternal realm. Repair costs are negligible, you lose like 30 seconds max on a death outside of bosses. And if a boss kills you, well you can retry an infinite amount of times.
i used to do it because its more fun to be fearing every corner and overthinking every thing you do…
but thx to 3 deaths to random exploding things u cant see… i am done with it …
This was more my question, there are so many things that can kill you that you have zero control over in the current state of the game. I get wanting to add that extra factor of skill and make it mean something. But if I died to a ground effect I could not see or get one clapped from off screen I would be quite livid.
you will probably no …
why people choose hard difficulty instead of easy in game ???
easy will allow you to win easly … so why choose hard !??
…
You cant understand sorry …
Do you know English? Doesn’t seem like it. My question was very straight forward and you seemed to just not address it while maintaining horrible grammar…
Because I understand the dangers of the game and I am good enough to NOT die, and I do not care if character is lost. The most fun part is making a char powerful from zero to hero. At least to me… At least that you can learn from gaming. When you die, you start anew again.
Basically “no risk, no reward”. I don’t get any kick from playing softcore. if anything, I feel like hardcore is getting way to easy. And yes, I have died 4 times (all below lv 30) but learned from each mistake, so now I have 77 and 56 respectively.
It definitely creates an edge while I am playing. There’s no other feeling like it. The best I can compare it to is playing EVE online, where loss is real. Yes, it forces me into a specific play style, I am very cautious when I play hard-core. I don’t do dungeons. I don’t do the campaign. And it stresses me out. That’s why I have a mix of hard-core and eternal characters.
The only thing you have zero control over is a disconnect death. Everything else is 100% avoidable, if you’re good enough.
This can be dealt with through defensive based aspects. Like barrier for instance. Which having that equal balance between defensive and offensive gear is important for survival in hardcore.
Softcore is a different playstyle all together. Because, of the lack of risk, it’s all about damage. Hardcore is way different from that.
Because the only achievement I want from any Diablo game is “beat the game on hardcore mode”
I play hardcore because I need to balance damage and defenses, because I have a lot of fun and adrenaline, because I play and meet interesting and mature ppl there to play with, because it is more challenging. Since the 3 betas I never lost a single character despite I had many close calles with real fun, my hall of dead heroes is still clean, now I enter t4 I will certainly lose a toon at one point
on my pc the game is perfectly stable, despite I have 100+ hours in the game fully in hc i never was close to die because of the coding or anything, and it’s the only way I enjoy the game.
No hc no game for me, I prefer play candy crush that soft Diablo. Matter of taste.
I have a freaking blast to start torment t4 on my beloved barb. And if he die there another one has héritage in the chest to continue the legacy, stronger than ever.
Started hc in d2 after falling asleep in front of my computer in soft core, gave a shot for hc before uninstalling, result : no uninstall, total fun, never looked back.
That’s a great point. Unfortunately I have slept in hardcore mode too
I just feel the game had very little actual challenge to offer me in softcore, ive always had the edge of a challenge focused gamer. Lets face it, if we are here, we are the kind of players who usually select the absolute highest difficulty available in every game like ever.
In Diablo just feels like softcore is a dryrun with no consequences, and that hardcore is the REAL game with the highest stakes, you snooze u lose. I got to around lvl80 in softcore and got immediately bored out of my mind and started hardcore only. The quality and gameplay difference between players is immediately evident.
You trip for a millisecond u lose. Its the ultimate test of your wits and patience. Hc isnt just a test of your knowledge of the game. Play fatigued and your brain just wont function and dying from tiredness: make no mistake thats a skill issue, and is also a vital point about playing hardcore is discipline. Apart from the regular enemies, there is the lag and disconnects you need to also worry about so theres that huge downside that turns off most sensible people.
What is pretty much universally agreed though, is that the highest level HC players who make it to the top are unquestionably a bunch that have a good reason to be proud. There is that flawless string of close calls, good judgment calls and quick thinking compounded in a series of actions in order to get to 100 on hc, its actually quite a big achievement in this game if you aren’t being carried. You just will never, ever look at any softcore lvl100 the same way, not even comparable. Theres something inherently bittersweet about game world mortal players who are alive at those high levels because really they are all one disastrous misstep from permanent death - so the attachment you have with these characters just hits differently.
Lastly, not to say Diablo is even all that difficult perhaps for gamers new to the genre, but really: any complete idiot can get to lvl100 on softcore, and perhaps some of us want to prove we aren’t like 99% of the population.
I just started HC D4. I played softcore on D1-D3 but I had horrible rural Internet.
I think it is more of a challenge and more fun. It also takes me longer to hit endgame so more time to enjoy the game.
On my first playthrough I died on the final boss, Lilith.
It was in the phase where the playingfield gets smaller and smaller.
I didn’t know that at that time.
So just stood on the wrong piece of playing field and then …instant death.
second paythrough went better. I was super excited to have beaten the final campaignboss on hardcore.
Same excitement when I got my first kill of the Butcher. The adrenaline it gives can’t be compared to softcore.
Reaching Torment also felt like a great victory. Lost another two characters on Torment.
Now im playing hardcore season 1. Have a level 88 druid now, boulder build. Its fun.
And i’m still alive. Learned from my deaths.
One thing I really enjoy is the high quality players you get to play with at high levels in hardcore.
Anyone playing hardcore at level 70+ have a good grasp of their class and how the game works.
