So you guys are selling preorders some of them with pets included. You should explain at least why do we even need them? Is it just cosmetics or there is some functionality too? I won’t buy anything before explanation. It’s just rude.

I hate it when I have to step some yards backwards to collect cinders. If the pet does it for me, then I love it.

If they start rewarding pets for the season journey, like they did with D3, then I might actually install the game again.
I like pets? I like pets that have a function like picking up gold in particular. I need to go look. I just found out there was a THING that dropped. This is what I get for touching grass - and algae, and dirt. I was pressure washing! Super fun actually. Just messy.
Now to find out what we got!

The small tiger pet is awesome. Say hello/greetings to her. 
Everytime i pet the small tigress i get a stygian stone while doing my peasant Lvl 75 pits.
So many cats. All the cats. Tiger and leopard pet. War Cat…maybe a cheetah? I can pretend.

the most fun thing about this that none of you asked the question, why was the game so bad designed that you needed a pet to pick something up?

That’s not bad design. Click and pick up items has been a thing since ARPGs were invented.
They are just trying to QoL and make it more streamlined so we don’t spend time trying to pick up wanted mats in a sea of drops.
I think you might have some other issues to address outside of the game.

Oh they know people will. Hopefully for just $10. That is the perfect pet price and what they have been using in WoW for decades. It is not “cheap” but also not break the bank expensive. I really want them to have a bunch we can earn in game too! Season rewards for starters. Achievements maybe or quest lines.

because of reddit, that’s ground zero of all the bad suggestions. The pets look completely out of place mid combat, it’s weird and goofy but I can live with it. This could have been accomplished through many other means, but let’s be honest this is just a smart way of pre selling the expansion. I’m happy there’s more resources for game development, but I don’t like looking at goofy pets zooming across the screen. It definitely made the game a bit more flamboyant.

It’s been a thing in MMOs forever too. The OP must be new to gaming.
After playing D3 for as long as I did, pets were a missing feature for the release D4. I am glad they are back and understand the marketing strategy but I hope the additional pets we can earn are more in line with the game’s theme. I don’t mind purchasing the expansion to obtain the additional content and features. Supporting the title will just net us additional features and content in the future.

One thing you really need to learn -
the vast, vast VAST majority of people do not look at anything outside of the game.
And even someone like me, who occassionally visits forums, didn’t even know an announcement video existed in the first place. Also honestly didn’t care-
