Why didn't The Pit replace Nightmare Dungeons?

Seems like many people are tired of doing dungeons with those annoying objectives. Should just replace objectives with this rift mechanic and bigger maps.

Their design failed from the start and were boring “over 150 dungeons” marketing talk. There should be few but in style of WoW and Immortal with bosses that have some actual cool voice lines.

Why isn’t The Pit a throwback to Diablo 1, except it has 100 floors that you can start in floor one and walk your buttocks all the way through to 100. A new shortcut would open up somewhere in the world, you’d just have to find it in the dungeon and use it once and you could teleport to it. For example, one could be in some dudes basement. Deeper ones could permanently change a regular dungeon into a shortcut dungeon at a similar NM tier difficulty, except you only have to do the first half to get to the shortcut, and you get half the glyph xp there. There would be no dumb timer. The dungeon layouts wouldn’t be this strangely scaled architecture that looks big, but is actually small. Every 6 levels the aesthetic would change from a finished cathedral/castle type into the dungeon, into catacombs, caves, then into the 9 layers of hell (which would shift every 8 floors). The last 4 floors you’d be knocking on Heaven’s door for them not helping to deal with this crap and their annoying fallen angel.

Thank goodness they didn’t. The pits are boring, with poorly implemented bosses. While NMD’s maybe getting a little long in the tooth they are still miles ahead of The pits IMO.

Cause they want you in some form of dungeons lol. They taking the inspiration from D3 rifts / Greater Rifts system which just makes for a boring endless loop of “gameplay”

Just like in D3 where I prefer Neph Rifts over Greater Rifts, I like the NMD over Pit, so I’m glad they didn’t. Never been a fan of timed content.

idc myself that pits are not like this, but a mode like this might actually be cool, not that i care if they don’t. But not a bad idea.

I’d take another option, too, but only if I wasn’t forced into doing pits for masterworking.

Not a fan of NMDs, but they are massively better than the Pit, so replacing that would be really bad.

Not sure about 100 levels, but Diablo 1 dungeons in D4; massive dungeons with at least 15-20 levels, multiple biomes, a semi-randomized set of quests in each run (like, 30 quests overall, 10 of which are randomly selected for each reset), and a theme throughout (like D1 had, telling a story through the environment and quests), As well as secrets to find, reasons to explore each level etc.
That could be awesome imo.

I preferred season 2 open field the best tbh. Its currency wasn’t lost, and the psuedo player NPC ganks were good as well.

Regardless if it’s above ground or in the dungeons, the environments could use more distinctness. The D2 acts all felt different when your were in them and too much of D4 feels the same imo.
