Why can't we side with Lilith?

The PC is against lilith no matter what. I want to side with Lilith please.

Mommy will save us all.

It almost feels like that’s where they were going, with how they ended it in the scene with Rathma…but decided against that, as it would have required them to extend the story further than they have.

We essentially side with Mephisto who’s triune cult abused humanity for millenia but not Lilith who while not perfect actually seems to value ending the eternal conflict and saving humanity and santuary.

Lilith cares about humanity more than any other demon or angel except maybe Tyrael who is MiA or dead.

To be fair, as time went on…we questioned whether or not Lilith was right, fundamentally, while being wrong in her approach. Keep in mind that there’s a LOT of things she did that were horrible, but all those things came after the Beta…which didn’t really show her doing much of anything bad, per se.

The goal then became imprison Mephisto and kill Lilith…which may actually work out better for her in the long-run…as she’s just going to reform in the Black Abyss, and now her father is gone…meaning she can amass more followers in the realm of Hate.

Probably the final expansion, you go into hell and rescue her or something.

Pretty sure it’s because the ending is supposed to set up the next two expansions so they can’t allow alternate endings or even room for alternate endings.

They should have created alternative endings, one where you sided against lilith and one where you sided with her.

That would have been innovative in an ARPG and the story invited it.

With her smile and beautiful non-matching eyes and those gravity defying … sorry “eyes up here”.

Yeah, I would follow her anywhere.

i feel it was wrong to kill her as her motive ultimately was for humanity to be free from both demons and angels stupid war mongering

If this were a true rpg like Mass Effect, you’d be able to make meaningful decisions. You rarely make any choices at all. I’d have enjoyed telling both sides "screw you, eat scythe "

At certain points it does feel like you could side with her or Inarius.

I would have respected this game a lot more if it let us choose and that choice carried into the next game like Mass Effect.

I feel like I’m missing something, because to me that character was so cardboard villain cliche and didn’t actually do anything interesting. I loved the premise of a not for hell not for heaven type character. Despite that, and her saying she wants to save sanctuary from the eternal conflict, she doesn’t do anything nuanced, just typical demon, worship me, kill thy neighbour stuff. Her whole story was about freeing one demon so she could absorb the power of another, not a whole lot of character development or personality insights. The only character in this game that actually felt like a character was Donan.

Everything was mephisto plan.
He let go Inarius in first place.

‘Siding with Lilith’ - sign of a good villain when you’re reluctant to put them down. A great storybook ‘demon’ makes you adore them.
I’m definitely among those who wanted to stop her … but then give her a hug and not actually destroy her.

Here’s why you can’t:
The Plan involves entangling one Prime Evil after another, empowering them in confinement, and syphoning their confined power. Feed hate to Hatred, terror to Terror, then hoo boy ‘destruction’ to Destruction … and then put that power in Lilith, hope she doesn’t become the very essence of Hell and a walking nuclear detonation, and then that Super Saiyan 12x Lilith ‘defeats’ Hell.

Lilith’s plan is sound - but it comes from a demon encouraging lots of destructive indulgence everywhere she goes, seeding the Sin she later intends to harvest, and then seeing those who give in as weak and deserving to be culled for the greater good. There is a very strong assumption that she remains intact and doesn’t radically change personality or form as she absorbs power, and end up destroying the Sanctuary realm she intends to save.

What do you do as a player of a video game in this scenario?

Go domain to domain and round up the Prime Evils?

  • Either lots of portal-dungeons or a whole new World Map of Hell, lots of mapping, quest scripting, probably a new cast of sympathetic cultists or demons to travel with that all need to be voiced, animated, and balanced for gameplay as members of a Party.

Call yourself the Hero when the food fed to the Primes is the already shattered human population of Sanctuary?

  • Pretty much a long and drawn out ‘White Phosphorus’ moment that drags on for hours; hard to storyboard several Acts of you taking part in making Hell on Earth, likely with a new human antagonist trying to stop and reason with you, without beating the player over the head with pleading fathers making futile last stands to keep their family out of it, screaming mothers watching violently dismembered small children, all helpless against an extra-dimensional sucking energy immolating and drawing them into a soul stone Act after Act until the player just goes numb, or the horror inflicted is glossed over and understated.

An epic twist of fate would be if in DLC #1 Mephisto and the other lords of Hell start to get a few big wins and then in DLC #2 we have to resummon Lilith to help us save humanity.

I personally think that would be a pretty cool story.

Would’ve been more interesting if they bait and switched, making Inarius fulfil that role.

That dude has reason to be livid with everyone, bar his kids, after The Sin War.

Fights the Triune and prevents the Burning Hells claiming Sanctuary, fixes the mess he made by banishing Lilith. Couldn’t bring himself to cleanse Sanctuary so attunes the Worldstone to diminish the Nephalem’s power over generations. Gets handed over by The Angiris Council to Mephisto for a millennia of torture, all for an inconsequential and short lived peace treaty.

Comes back from that and suddenly humanity is his problem? Eh? Meh. Let’s go slap Imperius.

Given those horrible things are part of her demonic nature. Pretty much she’s just a demonic Tyrael.

Inarius might end up coming back as well, Demons and Angels can’t die fully they do come back eventually. So I wonder if there’s a plan for that in the future
