Why Call it Shako?

Just Curious. /20char

You must have never played diablo 2

From D2 trading basically. Public game names had limited characters. So shako for short rather than type out the full name.

The harlequin’s crest in D2 was a shako type helm. Shako is a lot easier to say.

Why call it a Shako?

Good question. When uniques dropped in D2, they were unidentified. You would only know the “type” of item it was. Each item type had three tiers, like we have normal, sacred and ancestral. In D2, each item type had different names for each of those tiers. Like a tier 1 cap was just called a cap. A tier 2 cap was called a War Hat. And a tier 3 cap was called a Shako. The unique version of the shako was a Harlequin Crest. So if a Harlequin Crest dropped, it was a unique colored “Shako” word laying on the ground. You had to identify it at Deckard Cain or with a scroll of identity before it would say Harlequin Crest. It was just easier and more fun to say “Shako” I guess.
