The books have humans being both good and evil. The opening cinematic shows these humans being quite opportunistic but when we play the game we are almost fully forced to be saint-like…
I am not trying to say that we need to be evil or have more evil humans. I am just asking… why are humans always the good guys and it seems like we are only fighting against demons.
Will Diablo 4 allow us to choose factions? Team Inarius vs Team Lilith?
I have a feeling this won’t be the first Diablo game with multiple endings but it would be nice if we could have that choice. Maybe this isn’t the game for it but I wouldn’t mind a future diablo game expanding more on options of good and evil and the choices players can make.
I always see those up turned wagons with the people cowering beneth them and think… “Pathetic. You need to stop cowering in fear and fight back. Save yourselves because in this life no one else will.” (Not really just being edgy for effect.)
Right, there are some cases of npcs in all the games but it seems still few and far between. Like that village really set the tone for the game and then it just completely fell off in the rest of the act.
I do notice there are bandits outside of the town but it often feels like there isn’t enough real corruption through-out the story.
And yeah, it’s like we are forced into the hero role but we never get a chance to even consider betraying an ally.
corruption usually comes from peaceful time when humans don’t have to fight a common enemy and have a hard time to survive : in peaceful time they have all the time in the word to get corrupt and greedy and way less reasons to stay united.
In dire time, where everything get killed left and right, most of the people will simply fear for their lives and won’t be so greedy Simple as that.
atleast that’s my take on it.
Of course a few humans will still be greedy and corrupt (steal food and money to get food) though mostly out of desperation in order to survive
but in survival they won’t be like that , as openly and as often because it already take all their energy simply to survive.
Also : as a viewer or player or anything we’ll almost always view victims as “good” and the opressors as “bad” and all that despite their minor flaws or quality they may have or not
but on all diablo franchise, humans are always the victims, the prey.
D2
Blood Raven - corrupted human
Countess - human that bathed in the blood of virgins
Whole Zakarum council - corrupted humans
Nihlathak - willingly sides with Baal
Thats just D2, and that’s not all.
I would need to check for D3.
In D4, just the first village and most Lilith followers are evil.
Yeah, there are some, that’s my point, it’s just a handful of npcs. But I am not talking about those corrupted by direct demonic influence. I am talking about corruption like similar to how it appear in the first cinematic. Also, I am meaning like more player choices. We are pretty railroaded into being good. I think David Brevik brought it up once and that it was a design choice but it feels like with how diablo 1 and diablo 2 works with pvp then you could have story or quests or some sort of corruption/divinity meter that changes your cosmetic appearance in game.
I just want to see more subtle themes I guess but Diablo games want it to be more Black and White. Stark contrasts rather than shades of grey.
I mean that’s what it’s all about Demons v Angels, Good v Evil.
Of course, humans can have their own faction but in the end this is what the game is about.
Originally, I loved the Necromancer’s lore because it talks about the understanding of the universe needing to be balanced. I like to think Thanos would play a Necromancer.
I both D3 and D4 some people used necromancy for power not to ensure the balance. Figure that one out. The cult of the Triune is evil to the core yet in D3 one of its members helps us, so you never know what to expect.
I am not sure why people want to be on the side of Lilith, the developers have made it very clear that she is not our friend and if we do not stand agents her, she will destroy us all. This mommy worship that some people have is just freaky. As for Inarius he is just a wacko.
Have you kept up with the lore? The heaven’s are not “good”; they are lawful if anything. Humans(nephilim) being a mixture of both Angels and Deamons are literally the most neutral species in the game just trying to survive.
