Why are druids obese?

mcdonald’s and pizza

Ah, the classic north american diet druid.

Some would say he’s a bear of a man.

Youth alcohol rates dropped 50% over the past 5 years as the latest generation of kids has largely rejected it, preferring to vape even over weed. The most interesting trend among adults has been high intensity drinking, but at reduced overall rates. Personally I think this comes from ridesharing being a more reliable service, so instead of people moderating their alcohol use regularly, they go out less frequently and drink excessively knowing they’re mostly not at risk if they’re not driving. I don’t think alcohol use is going anywhere, but I’ve definitely been surprised by the turn this generations rejection of it.

Cigarette rates have declined massively (20% to 11%) over the past 20 years as more states have raised taxes and restricted indoor smoking. It’s still the #1 health issue, but obesity is right behind it, and all indications are that it’s going to continue to drop significantly as it’s less in style and the older generations of smokers die off. There are extremely effective smoking cessation methods out there for anyone thinking about quitting. Weed rates on the other hand continue to climb (30% to 45% over 10 years) among young adults as more states legalize. Where that ends, we don’t really know and won’t for a while. The bright spot there is that weed consumption is diversifying over different forms, most of which are less dangerous to the lungs over smoking it traditionally, we hope anyway. Studies pending.

Amphetamine and opioid abuse are largely in the same category where around 1% of the population use that level of drugs, and it fluctuates, but not massively. Opioids are well studied and have lots of successful regimens for permanent cessation. Amphetamine is relatively new and has more limited treatment options, but there are successful cessation programs for that as well. A lot of what leads people to harder drugs is social in nature, it doesn’t matter what kind of personality or family history you have, they are incredibly potent.

But that’s the thing, you know. We live in a society. Lots of us dedicate our lives to making our society a better place. Suddenly having this “body positivity” upswell just disrupt decades of getting people to take their body health seriously is really bad. The rates of cardiovascular disease makes it one of the most impactful things health professionals should be worried about. Yet it’s one of the hardest things to get anything actually done about. We can give you a pill and treatment plan that will effectively stop your dependence on drugs or alcohol, but it starts with people realizing they have a problem.

Thanks for initiating another TED talk. (and for the pedantic, statistics are largely from NIH research, not hard to find, some conclusions as noted are my own, I don’t have a phD)

This info brings a lot of hope! That being said. I am not endorsing body positivity any more than i am endorsing substance abuse positivity - getting people informed of the consequences of obesity by pervasive negative marketing and propaganda is fine to me as long as it does not devolve into hate spreading and victimizing. Its fine to slap a black sticker with skull and bones saying “obesity kills” on a jar of nuttela. It is NOT okay to normalize calling alcoholics and addicts trash, fat people - landwales etc It is not fine to look at a bunch of kids beating and laughing at the chubby or hell even obese one and do nothing and think “thats a good lesson for that cube of lard, hell learn to shape up” Moving on and back to the topic - there is a certain relationship between body fat levels and musculature - see clips of strongmen and weightlifters and you will find that most of them look very similar to the druid.

Stop it, get some help.

Thd color changes with your hair color…which you can now change at the wardrobe.

I noticed that every single Druid leg armor has this massive cloth and/or metal codpiece hanging down to the knees, like they are concealing a redwood. These days I run around with the unequipped look so as to offend as many people as possible.

You’re talking about abuse though. I don’t think anyone is advocating for abuse. Nor has anyone advocated for abuse in any threads I’ve seen about druid bodies. Are you sure you’re in the right place there bud? I wouldn’t even advocate for warning labels for most products, it didn’t really do much for Canada with their cigarette cessation efforts, mostly annoyed people.

Strongmen and weightlifters have a whole different set of health problems they bring on for themselves. Those are not naturally occurring healthy body types, and they know it. If you get one to talk openly about it they’re probably very much aware their pursuit of extreme fitness comes with a lot of risks, and oftentimes a lot of questionable performance enhancers whether that be pretty directly illicit drugs or grey market unregulated “did my own research” stuff. If you aren’t blindly letting a “professional trainer” shoot you up before sessions, chances are pretty high you know exactly whats going in and what it can do. Anabolic steroids and HGH are really common and lead to cardiomegaly. It’s not quite the same cardiovascular disease, but it presents frequently in active bodybuilders after 10-20 years, and they die pretty young from heart attacks.

When it comes to massive warriors dual wielding giant axes and two-handed swords, the class fantasy kind of plays into being a giant musclebound raging freak of nature. I just don’t really see the same class fantasy for someone that uses magic to shapeshift into animals is all.

This thread is still up, interesting.

People enjoy talking about moronic subjects.

Druids are still fat, gross, and unplayable to many people.

Change this, druids being fan of Pringles and McDonalds is absurd.

Saw a fun clip from Rob2628 comparing Druid and the coming new class Spirit Born, skip to 16:10. The difference between this two class which both have strong connection to the nature is 150 pounds
