Why are "damage to close/distant enemies" affixes still here?

They’re conditional affixes too, aren’t they?

Maybe because there are active entities which hate us? Not sure, otherwise.

Aren’t those only on tempering manuals?

Only place I have seen them so far, imagine bricking an item with this roll sigh…

Rogues Union wanted them kept in. We meet on the first Tuesday after a full moon.

Because there should be some variance. They got rid of most of the ridiculous conditionals right? What’s wrong with close and distant?

There should be some conditionals, the itemization has gone a bit too far in the other direction IMO

Think these might work well:

More common rolls:

  • Damage vs Afflicted
  • Damage reduction from Afflicted

Rarer rolls but with higher numbers:

  • Damage vs Brute
  • Damage vs Caster
  • Damage vs Flyer

** Afflicted = Poisoned/Burning/Bleeding/Cursed

Maybe a bit over the top but much less than it used to be (vs chilled, slowed, stunned, immobilized, lol), think these should roll albeit more rarely to feel like providing some “profile specialization” of your damage output

There aren’t simply enough affixes otherwise I’d say

Other classes benefit from this too (Arc Lash or even say Orbiting Sorc for ex., if I were Blizz I’d do that Orbiting aspect converts LB to become melee  )

The only class that doesn’t benefit at all I think is Barb, all others have stuff that are melee & ranged

Some variance is fine, but I noticed this a lot when playing a pure marksman focused rogue. At times there can be mobs that surround you. You lose the distant bonus damage. Suppressors, you have to get close to deal damage while they aura is up. Bosses they are on you like glue at times again you lose the damage bonus. I don’t mind doing the Kite method for the bonus but sometimes you are just going to be close.

Close damage is easier to utilize.

Tried range Rogue and it is really underperforming compared to the melee one

Also think Marksman Rogue requires some bits of CC. Now granted doesn’t have much of it but has some (Frost Caltrops, Smoke bomb, aspect grenades)

There’s also Forceful arrow - a Generator with baked in Knockback, but yeah can see the problem, I mean I tried it and saw Penetrating Shot was performing quite a lot better than every other ranged option

TLDR ? - don’t think it’s an itemization issue, range Rogue is bad :stuck_out_tongue:

tibaults still has dr to close as well. not sure if it’s still an affix on rare/leg. thought this crap was gone?

It’s through Tempered Affixes now, it won’t roll on gear by itself, you have to Temper it on.

Just to give an example the Tempered Recipe: Natural Finesse has the following:

+31.5 - 45.0% Damage
+47.0 - 65.0% Damage to Crowd Controlled Enemies
+62.5 - 85.0% Damage to Close
+72.5 - 95.0% Damage to Distant

So you have a 1 in 4 chance if you want to use this recipe, it’s also under the “Offensive” Category, so you can only slap it on Weapons, Gloves, Amulets and Rings.

Looks like necro minions double dip. Eg they inherit damage to close so when they’re close to an enemy they do + percent damage. However, if you also move close to the enemy they get affected again in a sort of global way.

Close and Distant are pretty good affixes (in terms of concept, not talking about their balancing). Definitely should remain.
These have nothing to do with “On a tuesday, if it rains”. You, as the player, can directly influence your distance to a target.

Pretty sad, but also so unsurprising, if Blizzard have overreacted to all the crying, and removed too many perfectly fine affixes.

Agreed, this is the way.
