Hate to break it to ya homie, it’s not just the mercenaries that are cringe af. The entire story of the expansion is. The entire story of the expansion revolves around “the power of friendship!”, like that has any place whatsoever in the Diablo universe. The writers are awful. Blizzards writers have been awful for years.
