Who misses or wants a mercenary/follower in D4?

In D1 we were on our own.

In D2 we had the act-specific mercenaries that would die so quickly that it was a joke.

In D3 we had followers that we could play dressup with. With the right token, they never died, but were, for the most part (save unity trick/emanate schtick), not overly useful.

In D4, we are back to being on our own.

I personally like the idea of a mercenary in principle and, if it were to be reintroduced, be more similar to D2 than D3 versions - perhaps a timed mercenary, in the same way that elixirs give you 30 minutes with different buffs and exp, do the same thing for mercenaries but have them buff different skills for a short time.

Who wants the mercenary/follower system to return?

Are you sure they’re absent? The AI is there because quest companions are a thing in the overworld and dungeons. We sure they’re not in the release version?

I hate followers. They never do anything besides become an additional stat stick or a temporary shield.

i hope not. rather centralize all the juice on myself.

dont wanna end up with gimmicks ala diablo3 with unity and the follower dropping when in group.

if i want “pets” ill roll necro

I prefer the idea of working alone because this one is a lot darker than D3. Fits the theme.

Yes.

One that tells me " The prophet never told me what a bore you could be" while trying to go through my stash and clean it out.

Pretty sure. I played the end game beta in October and November and made it to 99 on a wiz and ran low level barb, necro, DH, and druid.

They were not present in town.

That’s not to say they don’t have plans to add them - I just didn’t see them then - and none of us saw them this past weekend.

100% okay with no followers. They got to be a bit too much in d3. D2 even its super annoying keeping them alive and dropping all your gold to rez them.

I say good riddance to them. They didn’t age well and became just a hassle to gear when all you want is the aura from them.

Only if we can mute them - they’re such whiners when you stand still for more than 10 seconds.

If they add followers, then i want a passive bonus for nothing having one.

I’d rather have a pet that picks up than a follower

Haha. It was Tyrael who blabbered on about his stomach being full that irked me so.

This is how I feel. I normally like the option for followers but I don’t want it forced on me. Plus I kinda hated them in past Diablo games.

I was wondeing where they were during beta, was assuming maybe they will be added later. I think followers will be a thing in D4, not sure maybe they dont have plans to add them. I mean I would like to have a follower system, maybe they can provide buffs and debuffs as we adventure into the world of Diablo.

:joy: those conversations were a bit silly
“I ate too little”
“I ate too much”
“Being mortal is HARD”

The faxt that random people can jump in and steal my glory in events and dungeons is bad enough. No thanks to followers/mercs. They actually did it right with the quest followers in that they are both invincible and can’t hurt the monsters. I hope that doesn’t change for the campaign.

after building stronghold /temple / house you start atracting followers to serve you btw some can be pretenders

actually in d2 the mercs didn’t die quickly as you say, specially at high level with the right equipments, obviously the act2 one with auras was the obvious choice.

Hope D4 they add something like that too but with better mechanics and balance, this is something I always enjoyed about, have a partner to equip stuff on it, add more deph to your build, more customization and so on

okay so i like the mercs but it makes it where you need to be picky who you group with in d3. you lose so much.
