White Items Only for Runewords? 🤷‍♂️

So GaryOak thinks that runewords should only be usable in white items.

I think this is a terrible idea. White and blue items shouldnt even exist.

Do you support runewords only usable in white items?

Yes or No?

Thanks for your time!

He wants them to work like D2 did. The problem here is that they are totally different systems where as D2 runewords turned the white and grey socketable items into a totally different item but still kept any affix’s the original item had (such as +3 to fireball or static charge or whatever), D4 runewords just add simple IF->THEN conditionals to existing items. Restricting them to white items would be worthless and you might as well not even runes at that point.

Tale of 2 worlds, simple as that

Both can work, as long as not completely overlapping one another

I like the D4 concept for Runewords more, but think they’re a tad bit overtuned to make a fully-functional system out of them (would much rather prefer them being weaker individually but being able to socket/stack 3-4 of them in say a 2H or a chest armor)

As for Blue items I think there can easily be a Socket or Orb or something like that that would “compose” the entire item (or any other item that has less than 3 affixes for that matter) into a socketable

Frankly I also think Temper recipes should be less limited on combinations and then individually consumed (much like the original Aspects were)

Some people wanna try things out and experiment, others just want to “optimize” ASAP to maximum power. Personally I belong to the first group more

Also D2 Runewords serve a different purpose from those in D4, D2 Runewords are a “secret weapon” built back at home, D4 ones are a “cherry on the top” of a build/synergy to capitalize on

And yes - part of the purpose/concept of Runewords in D2 was to make white items late-game situationally useful… Wouldn’t be against some mechanism that would allow/offer that in D4 too

There have been other discussions about the Runewords in the forums, kinda surprised that took you this long
