I literally forgot I could just go buy this key from the vendor, so I never opened a whispering chest. For those that did, what were the drops like? legendary items???
i got a couple of yellows but thats it
I found one in the OBT and opened it, so my memory is a bit hazy.
I don’t recall being super overwhelmed by it though.
Just a nice lil’ boost of loot for the investment.
A yellow or two will be great along the way. I’m going to invest in some keys early on. I literally discovered the keys while I was gambling in the prior beta, and once the slam rolled around I was like where tf do I get these keys??
They werent anything special in the beta, i dont think enough people interacted with them to let blizz know to buff them so well see.
I asked the same right before the server slam. While they weren’t anything special the Obol Vendor really isn’t either at early levels now that the drop rate of legendaries has been cut back so I think it is worth getting a few keys. Maybe you’ll get lucky.
I opened one or two in the previous betas. Never got anything good. I heard they were really unrewarding in the server slam.
Save the Obols. Build your aspect library for your character gambling gloves and offhands(if class uses them). WhispChests were very underwhelming. Better to spam events and get Obol chests.
I used many keys during all 3 beta weekends and never got a legendary from one of those chests. Gambling seems to be the way to go, I got multiple legendaries gambling the first 2 beta weekends, and even during the server slam with the normal legendary drop rate I still got 2 legendaries while gambling. Unless they do something to the chests drop rates, I’m not wasting time on keys, I’ll just continue gambling.
Thanks for the replies. I had not thought of gambling for the sake of filling the legendary aspect library. The 3xbetas have me thinking short term, I almost forgot there is some things that just need to get done, like the Lilith statues and legendary aspects
The vast majority of what you will get for your Obols will be insta-salvage or sell. Having a few keys on hand for the random chest is a bargain.
Nothing really valuable but I wonder if they’ll be more worthwhile on higher world tiers. It’s only 20 obols per key at the end of the day so might as well carry 1 or 2 around with you.
I got a mount cosmetic armor out of the whispering chests but obviously I can’t keep it. I also got a mount in game too, but I got it in the early access beta so I cannot remember the exact source, either it was the chest you get from doing the world quest things or it was from a treasure goblin.
Whispering chests are a joke imo
WHy should i spend 20 obols on a key that may yield some possible useful loot, when instead i can save up my obols & try get the actualy piece i want by spending on the vendor?
I suppose it’s a optional way, but at the reate in wich you encounter these chests it seems to be useless. Now if the chest possibly yielded crystals / obols or rare materials then i would spend my 20 obols on a key.
not worth the hassle, some cr.appy yellows
Assuming there is an odds table for Obol gambling I’d rather get a chance closer to a guaranteed offensive aspect that may be the one I need for my build than carry two keys around hoping to a. find a chest and b. get anything worthwhile to drop from it.
One guy in this thread thinks he got something good from a chest but can’t even swear to it that it originated from a whispering chest or a gob or an event/quest.
in beta once found those, i went buying keys. then never dropped me any good item. so at server slam i simply ignored those, didn’t waste time to go and get key anymore. whatever other chest in dungeons was free and far quicker and potentially more rewarding to get than that time-sinker waste. like goblins, if they stay like that they can simply delete from game.
Just a small injection of rares. No legendaries. Still worth doing for 20 obols tbh even if it’s vendor trash (gold) or more salvage items.
i opened i think 3 in slam and only got blues and lower. id imagine the rate would be better though than gambling. so intention would be to always have some keys on hand jic you see a chest. But i didnt open enough to know.
I did one. Got a blue and chump change.
