Since D2, Set Items have always been a thing… especially class specific.
Do you think they will show up in the first season?

Set items killed D3.
Build variety was massive and fun all the way up until you get your first class set, and then you’re locked into one very specific build, and you can’t go back because it’s exponentially stronger than anything you had before.
Set items will come to D4 eventually, but I hope not until they figure out how to do it without obliterating build variety.
They were mostly worthless in D2 less maybe cheap mf sorc. D3 sets sucked. I hope not because they wouldn’t do all skills which means they would create the meta each season with a new set
They will add sets…I hope like in D2. In that game sets were flavours, not the best thing killing brain.
As if we have build variety here?
Wtf?
Sets were great, each class had about three good ones. And with LoD you could even retain your theme and branch out.
Stop spewing nonsense.
You do you, but set items were the worst thing they did in D3 for my money.
Build variety in D4 is lacking for sure, but the door is left open for improvement.
Adding D3 style sets would slam that door shut and say “Hi, these are your 3 endgame gear set choices, and the specific skills you need to use to go along with each of those three choices. We may change them from time to time, but you’ll never have more than 3 choices. Have a nice day!”
D3 set mistakes:
Of course, the types of gamers who just go to Maxroll and copy paste the 3 best builds there probably don’t understand what the problem with this is.
So why not have 5 sets per class, per each core ability?
You will always have meta skills tho, show me a 150GR capable WD build that doesn’t use spirit walk and pirannado.
My Barb (in D4) will probably always need challenging shout and iron skin. I don’t use an ultimate now that my Iron skin gives me unstoppable thru an aspect.
I think you are grossly misguided because that’s a design flaw in D3 itemization, not the fault of the concept “set items”.
OP is right, sets work in D2. Because itemization is actually indept there. D4 is kinda following D3 in terms of items and it sucks
Have to agree. Sets were fine the first time they were introduced, for a little. But after that, every patch they did to adjust some sets made it just that only that 1 specific set for every class was best overall to push. And since D3 had only leaderboard pushing, there was no other reason, except for fun, that you would go the 2nd best build for GR’s.
Lets just hope they dont implement sets in D4. And if (only if) they decide to put it in, they dont force you to put into gear where some uniques are a must to put in, like gloves or helmet or pants (I believe those slots where the most uniques are used in builds).
I was ok with D2 set items. I pretty specifically talked about D3 set items, and my wish for them to not repeat that system. So… It sounds like you agree with me lol.
That’s the thing with creativity. Creativity isn’t usually going to give the best results. You can still be “creative”, but you just won’t be the best.
Or use the legendary gem or two rings and make whatever build you had the creativity for.
I didn’t like sets boosting only certain abilities. Why bother coding the other skills if they are not ever going to be used? I hate that kind of fluff.
Not making them OP nor being the most powerful build of a class would be enough.
Just a matter of balance.
It was cool in D3, but I think we need them toned down in D4.
Imo sets are fine so long as they’re toned down (so that they’re nowhere near D3’s level), and aren’t buffing only 1-2 specific skills, and instead are more generic.
Yea I love the 6pc bonus: Your X skill does 25,000% more damage……ok lol
I just got a 33 trillion crit on my shotgun Crusader on D3 today. Like wtf
I think it works better when sets are only 2 or 3 items max.
You mean 1 set works in D2 (that is, tal set). Because everything else is trash.
diablo 3’s design of set items is what killed set items for diablo 3. Diablo 2 does not have any issues with set items other than that maybe some of them need some buffs.
