I thought of just upgrading my GPU from this:
i7 4790k
32gb ddr3
1660 super gt
4k monitor(32 inch)
but i think that my 4k monitor needs a bigger bandwidth than PCIe 3.0
so I’m thinking of horking thousands of $$$ for this rig:
i7 12700k aldur lake
32gb ddr5
4080 RTX 16gb
I want a smooth ride with them high res textures.
get the best of D4 as i can possibly get.
what about you?
I know some people haven’t even notice a difference between high and med textures, or don’t have 4k, so they can use a much less power hungry machine
edit:
how did this game ran on this current old rig?
pretty average. pretty crappy on high textures.
on average it was ok. not great.
when i play D2R with same rig, i get much more fluidity in gameplay, which to me is most crucial. it reminds me of old arcade games where stuff didn’t get slowed down at all.

CONCLUSION:
after reading most of this thread, here it is:
o just to SUM up this thread:
-3080 can take out 4k high textures on good fps
-not sure about DLSS yet until launch
-PCIe 3.0-4.0 not much difference? (still disputable i think in terms of 4k high textures)
-4080 & above are OP for this, but probably a safe bet just in case(or for other games)
-6800 XT, 6900 XT and 6950 XT are really good value if you don’t care about future raytracing support in D4 and the 16GB of VRAM make them rather future proof.
Dunno. Whatever it was when I built it in 2018. D4 ran so that’s all I care about.
It was my third build and I realized I actually hate building PCs.
I’m so excited to buy a crappy pre-built for my next one.

My current rig is nothing special, could run D4 fine on low settings, currently saving some money for a new rig sometime next year.

It’s really hard to run things at 4k with a consistantly high frame rate. For me I care much more about getting 120+ frames and having HDR. So I’m very happy with 1920 - 1080 for my rez.
My rig hasn’t been updated in 4 or 5 years. Though I did get a monitor that could do HDR and 144Hz last year. The computer still runs anything I play at ultra with max frames, as long as I’m at 1920-1080.

Runs D4 like a charm and my gpu was fine pre nvidia patch during both weekends
It’s a good way to waste money, though.
Intel Core i7-12700k
32GB DDR5 4800 MHz
RTX 3080 10GB
850W PSU
Using a 42 inch LG C2 OLED as a monitor through HDMI 2.1
I’m not looking for 150+ fps. The maximum refresh rate on a C2 is 120Hz so I’m fine with lower frames since I barely notice the difference above 60 fps personally. I just want a clean stable native 4k with good HDR.
PCIe 3.0 vs PCIe 4.0 isn’t a big enough difference for modern GPU to make a difference. It’s very negligible. That said, a lower spec CPU will hold back a modern GPU of course.
Personally, the 4080 is a very poor-value card. Not worth the money in my opinion. Either go all out and get a 4090, which is significantly more powerful for a “little” more money, or save money and get a 4070 or 4070ti, which will likely still run D4 with ease, even at 4K. Absolute worst case you use DLSS to easily reach your FPS target.
People were running the D4 beta at 200+ fps at native 4K. It’s really not a difficult game to run. However, if you want a system for other games too, then getting a high-spec system isn’t a bad idea but I’d still go with a 4090 over the 4080.

If I got a new laptop should I ask them - did you make the Ti 3070-3080 during pandemia (i.e defective) and can you test diablo4 runs and the card doesn’t kill the whole notebook before I buy it?
Otherwise trying on a 10 year old MSI gt70, 16GB RAM laptop with replaced with GTX 970M that can run modern games on ultra settings (for at least 25-30 fps or more)

Laptops are trash and you get a crappy version of the gpu slapped in there that and a massive “portable” tax added to the price tag , just get a tech to build a rig for you , you will also enjoy the upgradability in the future , laptops are not for gaming they belong to the street

That may have been the case many years ago but that is not so. Laptops are just as fine with performance although more expensive and harder to replace gpu. PCs allow more flexibility in upgrades but laptops are if you will be moving, and I never had problems playing what I want for being on a laptop. So this is some very specific opinion there.
P.S, your opinion is trash

RTX 4080 and 4090 are both beyond overkill for D4.
Both cards are so expensive and so rare that few if any game developers will actually make games that are truly optimized for either. It’s like 8k TVs. 8k TVs have been available for a long time but there’s barely any actual 8k content because so few people can afford true 8k TVs. Content developers just don’t see a market in 8k so they continue making content in the HD to UHD range.
Blizzard already said they’re only going to optimize D4 for lower specs and older hardware more and more as time goes on so more people can play the game.

Just stick to either rtx 3080 or 3090 the 40 series to me is a massive cash grab for very little performance increase/$

You still get crappy components at full price plus the “laptop” extra charge … it’s pointless to game on laptops 2023 unless you like having a 3 year old $3000 brick in your life
I’ll stick with my gaming pc man
Nah dude laptop gamers opinions are

Which is why I said get something less expensive or get a 4090 if they want to play other games at 4K with high framerates. Just don’t get a 4080.
Get a laptop if you need a workstation.
GPUs are too energy intensive and laptops just don’t supply the necessary power even when plugged in. Also GPUs will eat away at batteries when gaming which requires laptop makers to put in bigger batteries, which leads to bigger sizes and more weight, which leads to more inconvenience blah blah blah… you can game on a laptop it’s just not going to be the best use of the hardware or your money.

I know the advantages of PC for performance and upgrades but the portability and bringing it to many places is something that has made it a must have even over the other things PC can do.
Ok tell it to gazillion laptop users, no your opinion is childish. The only thing that sucks using is a MAC book for gaming (or for anything)
