Except for legendary nodes, which are mostly useless, paragon nodes are overwhelmingly just flat damage increases that you have to click 400 times when trying a new spec. Do they exist just to make respeccing as painful as possible? IMO just move the legendary nodes to the normal talent tree and scrap the click & connect mini-game.
Artificial complexity.
The paragon board does nothing for enabling new builds. It’s all % modifiers and stat increases. Little else matters.
“We want character customization”
“This is too much work”
To allow them to advertise a feature that is mostly just the illusion of progress. Make numbers go BIG, make people feel like they’re putting a build together (LOL), and something that is easy and lazy for Blizzard to implement.
More or less, but since they appear to be going the route of disabling seasonal specific content like the jewelry gems in S1, it at least has potential in the future for more dramatic effects.
To add complexity for the sake of complexity.
It’s not customization though. It’s mostly deterministic (unlock 6 glyph nodes) and completely dependent on your talent tree set-up. For most specs you just look up the optimal pathing on Maxroll and then forget that the boards exist.
Maxroll is hardly optimal.
“The theorycrafters are wrong” and other weapons-grade copium you can snort
Their point is basically to let the game appear to be more complex than it is.
D3 paragons were a +1 increase, and D2 fans have been asking for those stat increases from D2, where you got points to shell out every level. Paragon in D4 is basically the culmination of 20+ years of player feedback in regards to controlling stat increases…
it is indeed artificial complexity, however I dont want to discourage these kinda of systems, instead they should aim to make them meaningful .
to be honest , modern game dev is mostly an illusion that hides curated game experiences…
