What's the point of having +% basic skill damage when you're lvl 50+

Just got a bow with +42% basic skill damage. What’s the point? Bliz should remove that for items lvls 50+.

Why? + basic skill damage is still giving your basic skills more damage, regardless of what level you are. And for people like me playing an Arc Lash Sorc, it’s a flat damage bonus.

Basic skill builds are good, for example a Lunging Strike-only build.

With the +60% attack speed aspect, stacking basic skill damage, stacking damage to healthy and injured enemies, stacking physical damage, you can one-shot even Elite (non-Boss) monsters with Lunging Strike, or at least kill within a couple of seconds.

My basic skill on my rogue is monstrous. The only reason my core skills hit harder is the bonus from combo points. I can actually just spam my basic in PVP and beat people, depending on their experience, build, and skill.

I use Lunging Strike in PvP and it is especially funny when people try to run away and this skill just makes me almost teleport right next to them each time.

Against Treasure Goblins, Lunging Strike can help to chase them as they run.

Lunging Strike is especially effective as a basic skill-only build due to the inherent massive +30% damage to healthy enemies in the mod enhancement.

Combine that with 6 basic skill royal gems (2 for each 2h, 1 for each of the two 1h), basic skill damage affixes on all weapons, basic skill attack speed aspect, damage reduction by using basic skill, stacking damage to healthy and injured enemies, you can take most of the life bar of a player with the first hit due to the healthy damage bonus, and then with the injured damage bonus, finish the player with a 2nd hit if the first hit didn’t 1-shot them.

Also use Lunging Strike with Bludgeoning 2H weapon which causes enemy to have chance to get stunned (from the passive), put the Bleed passive on Lunging Strike, add the passive that causes Bleeding enemies to be Slowed, add the passive that adds Crit Chance to Slowed and Stunned enemies. With high attack speed, you can perma-stunlock Elites and players, and very rapidly fill the Stagger bar on Bosses.

Literally the most OP basic skill in the game.

I have a buddy that made a basic only barb and he loves it.

I don’t think my rogue basic is that effective, as in, I don’t think I could actually use nothing but my basic unless I never pushed beyond tier 20 or so, lol.

What’s the point of light radius, like, ever?

Some stats exist to just make a piece of gear bad. At least basic damage is actually usable while leveling, unlike say, light radius.

(All this said, I would love it if you could actually make an end-game build that used basic skills in a satisfying manner, instead of the goal being to completely circumvent them - maybe a legendary effect that multiplied basic skill damage by like a factor of 5 but all resource generation was reduced by 80%).

Lunging strike, now 42% more effective!

I have no gear with basic skill% damage on it, aside from the random nodes in paragon. 75 rogue 1 point heartseeker hits for 30k, frequently.

I mean you can build around basic damage for entry level content i guess, but it will never a viable option to push high tier content as spenders to do way more damage and would benefit much more from the multipliers from crit damage and vulnerable

Poison Imbue puncture aspect and max puncture…

Always a fan of +stamina, myself. It didn’t make you run faster, just longer so you couod actually reach a mob to kill.

Few points:

  1. I can clear NMD 70 on my Necro with just basic. Bet I could push 90 if I used basic aspects/boosters. I may try that…
  2. Basic attacks receive the same crit/vuln boosts that other attacks do on a percentage basis. That’s how percents work.
