Maybe I’m missing something, but I can either craft a Tier 7 compass at the Occultist for a lot of powder and souls OR I can craft a much cheaper Tier 1 compass and painstakingly (especially on console) use scrolls to raise it to Tier 7.
Heck, on console its even doubly dumb where once you click the scroll it automatically brings up your inventory tab…where you don’t have any compasses. What the heck is the point of this other than contributing to my carpal tunnel and annoyance factor?
Do scrolls have a use that I’m missing, or is there some shortcut I don’t know about? Or is this just dev stupidity?
I saved every one I found while leveling glyphs and those are long gone. Most were level 1 to 3 so it didnt really change the problem. I have no reason to go back to Helltides or NM dungeons.
I get the impression the devs initially thought that Infernal Zerg compasses were going to be rare, so you’d save up your scrolls and this would be a special event rather than a full time grind. Then someone pointed out that it was dumb to limit the seasonal activity so they opened them up, but left this clunky scroll mechanic in place.
This must be fixed in the mid-season patch if not in 1.5.1 (didn’t see a fix listed, but perhaps I missed it or they didn’t bother to include). It’s an annoyance multiple times per hour.
If the whisper caches work with the compasses like they do with sigils, then once you complete a tier a whisper cache should then produce compasses no lower than your highest completed tier. I haven’t gotten a single tier 2 compass from caches since completing a tier 3, and I suspect once I get beyond that (I’m still leveling and gearing) I’ll not see any tier 3s anymore either. If it works like this, then it should save you a fair bit of crafting. Assuming you still do whispers.
I’m not sure if they continue to level up or not. The only reason I have to do whispers is maybe Varshan mats. The issue is that the higher levels of Infernal Zerg pretty much eliminate the need to do anything else because they are orders of maginitude better. So I’d be running whispers solely for compasses, which means might as well just click scrolls.
-Trade scrolls for items at the purveyor of curiosities
-Charge X scrolls to reset 1 temper on an item
-Use X scrolls to reset the 60 Aether chest.
-Overcharge but not level an X tier compass for added reward/difficulty but keep monster level same.
So many idea’s to come to light for extra usage for the 1000 scrolls sitting across my characters heh.
What about the bazillion you get through season cache? The same cache you get by doing… Hordes.
Again, there is absolutely 0 reasons to ever craft one. I’ve been spamming Hordes yet I still have 30+ compass in my stash and 20+ cache waiting to be opened.
Anyway, to answer your initial question, that is the point of Abyssal scrolls, to level up the massive amount of compass you get for free to the level of your choice.
