What's the difference between +Frost damage and +Cold damage?

I just recently noticed that the two stats are separated in the character stats tab, and was wondering if anyone knew the difference between them. As far as I can tell, all Frost skills in the Sorc tree are tagged as [Cold Damage]. So I am assuming [+Frost Damage] is a trap stat to go for as a “Frost Sorcerer”, which is extremely unintuitive.

Also on the skilltree they are “frost”

I dont think there is a difference, unless one is additive and other multiply

“Frost Spell” is a spell type tag.
“Cold Damage” is damage type tag.
They are different. Damage types are writtten bottom right corner of the skill info. Skill types are written in the first coloum in the top.

They are basically different thing for different purposes. Maybe there will come an item which will grant, lets say: “Whenever you cast a Frost Spell, you cast it again immediatly.”

Or maybe there will come another legendary in the future: “All cold damages will transform into Lightning damage”.

This will open up build diversity in the future. Right now every Frost spell is cold damage per se. But it might not be in the future.

Nothing, Sorc does no damage  . Cold damage is any type of cold damage, not exclusive to your skills, it effects outside sources of damage like the Icicle procs from Blizzard, Ice Armor and Deep Freeze. Frost damage is exclusive to skills tagged with #Frost.

Hahaha good one! And its one im painfully finding out while being stuck in HC pre-nightmare with my sorc

All Frost is Cold, but not all Cold is Frost.

For a Sorc they are almost the same. If you have some affixes that do Cold damage in gear, they are not increased by +Frost damage.
