Like just be able to declare hostile on anyone in the “local” channel/world you’re currently on? And if you don’t want to be “hostiled” there is a setting in the game options that you can chooset to allow to be hostiled or not.
I think this would make things fun or annoying, depending on how you feel about getting hostiled?

Fights would break out in towns and cities and it would not work out. Ppl would complain a lot trying to do masterworking inside 5 earthquakes.

Fights can only happen in the wilderness / open world and not in cities (just like in D2), to clarify. And we will have the option to not be “hostiled” in game settings.
This obviously is only for those who are seeking that extra thrill or fun of unexpected PvP encounters.

It would further illustrate how unbalanced the game is and how unfair that is to everyone.

How would it be unfair if you get to decide if you want to be part of it or not? Your logic doesn’t make sense.

His logic makes perfect sense.
If you don’t want to be hostiled you can choose not to be hostiled. Only players who want to be hostiled will be hostiled.
I honestly don’t know how to make this clearer.

Jemuzu’s point was that the builds in D4 are wildly disparate.

I am just trying to think outside the box how to make PvP more viable in D4 as it was one of the most fun parts of Diablo 2.
BTW, builds in D2 were also widly disparate. But maybe it’s just me comparing apples to oranges, sorry.

I’m gonna be 100% honest with you bud, I didn’t actually read your post. Just the title.

I think your idea could use a little rewording.
You should be able to flag yourself for PVP in the open world. By default, everyone would be unflagged for PvP, so you have to manually opt in. You can also only flag or unflag yourself in town, you wouldn’t be able to walk outside and then flag or unflag yourself. This is to prevent abuse.
I have no issues with this what so ever, I would just personally never use it. However for those who enjoy PvP I say more power to you. The only downside to this plan however is the fact that world shards are limited to 12 people per zone.
The reason you can go to a PvP zone now and actually see people in it is because it has its own world shard. Now if you open up the ability to flag yourself to PvP anywhere in the world, out of the many people playing, you might find 1 other person in the particular world shard you’re in. If you’re lucky.
More often than not you would probably flag yourself, run around in the open world and never see another person that was flagged.
The other issue is respawn points would have to be changed, as someone could kill you in the open world, and just spawn camp you until you logged back out and in again. Maybe even certain restrictions as well, such as no PvP at the world bosses for example.
Also if you got real clever you could duck in and out of completed or incomplete Strongholds, cellars, dungeons, etc. Instanced areas your opponent couldn’t follow you to. Just saying in general there’s more to think about then just setting a flag for PvP.

It was fun but it will cause a lot of grifing. I use to love going hostile in HC and collect them ears.
PKing was a major part of D2. PVP for the most part was like D4. Unbalanced and unfair.
You have tens of people that want this. PvP is so bad and lopsided in D4 there is no point. Even having an Arena-style instanced PvP that seeks to normalize player: Level, Gear, Paragon, Damage, and Mitigation - it would still suck. It would quickly become apparent that only certain Classes/Builds were FAR outperforming others.

The biggest problem is crybabies. That’s right I said it.
For people to want to do PvP, there needs to be some sort of reward mechanic around it. But the moment they give ANYTHING actually desirable as a reward for doing anything in PvP, there is going to be crying over rewards being “LOCKED BEHIND” PvP. There literally cannot be anything that exists in the game for people who CHOOSE to do certain things, or in certain ways. We saw the behavior yet again over the raid rewards.
I do think there can be somewhat of a solution though. Limit the rewards to PvP-specific gains. And we saw the implementation of my possible solution in S7. Gems, that give powers or abilities specific to PvP, that of course only apply to the PvP areas or encounters. So you’d get the normal Armor and/or Resistance so it can live full-time in your gear, but also had PvP effects. Earned by doing things in PvP.
But the other issue is what someone already mentioned. The difference between build-tiers in this game is so huge, it can be unfair to a lot of people. Especially since some builds or damage types inherently excel at single targets more than others. The solution may lie in a change to how damage is done in PvP; making it more percentage-based then flat number based. This way, level differences, or damage difference would have less of an effect. There would also need to be specific re-balancing of almost every skill and multiplier specifically for PvP; which is no small task.

Yeah… first Blizzard needs to get a vision for the game and make it engagingly fun… then they need to put whatever rewards are appropriate behind whatever activity needs it… and then let people choose to engage with it or not, no matter who cries.

I’d run out of pop corn watching 2 Barb’s fight each other while I’m on a cliff looking down at them. Would be entertaining indeed.
I’m sure if the world went to Lilith it probably WOULD be like that though.
I know where the OP is coming from and I do (as Ironic as it sounds) find that thrilling, I WOULD just never participate in it, but knowing some bully is out there in the wilderness ready to insta KO anybody who’s willing to fight is a Thrill that’s comparable to the Butcher in Season 0/Season 1.
But yes, a lot of people wouldn’t like it, even if the options are there.

If you see how empty the PvP zones are you know that nearly noone cares about PvP. It’s dead. Let it rest in peace

This could work if the PvP damage output is first nerfed by 99.9% and then they add a static base value to it, so the relative difference between builds wouldn’t be so drastic.
Its not out of the box. Its just the same type of system blizzard did for WOW after they eliminated PVP servers. Why were pvp servers eliminated? Because the people that like open world pvp only went to servers where their faction dominated. Most open world pvp players arent interested in a fair fight. They prefer to be on a server where the odds are 8 to 1. Once that was eliminated and the flag system was put in place most players choosed not to flag themselves. I never flagged myself and neither did anyone in our guild. Same would happen in D4.
Weve had a pvp zone in the game since launch and almost no one goes there. What makes you think a switch button will change it? Most of the players will ignore that switch the same way they ignore the pvp zone. Sorry, but most players arent into this game for PVP. Especially not open world pvp where your gear can be taken.
