What will your playthrough strategy be?

Curious how many are approaching this upcoming experience! Are you going to move on from Fractured Peaks when you 100% everything? Will you focus purely on MSQ and then backtrack? Rush to end-game?

How are you going about building your class? Pre-built from the theorycrafters? Figure it out as you go? Are you eager for the Tuesday datamine dump to figure out your class?

I’m super eager for the game myself, and plan to really soak it in! I’m torn on Frost Sorc or Minion Necro, but I think I’ll start Sorc. I’ve looked at a lot of pre-built classes, and I’m sure the min-max all makes sense, but the gameplay doesn’t look as fun, so I’ll be working on my own build and will resort to a build if I run into some issues!

I’ll probably focus on MSQ until I get my mount, and then take my time and clear out zones…it’s hard to say though, because I’m eager to move out of Fractured Peaks and see the rest of the game!

They said that you should get your mount at around level 30, but I wonder what level if you JUST do MSQ’ing…

What’s your plan?

Trying to get to WT3 as fast as possible and skipping all cutscenes.

Having fun, enjoying story, exploring

I will take my time and do everything and watch everything no need for me to blow past part of the experience just to get to the end. We have about 6 weeks before season one. I want to see the story unfold the endgame is not going anyplace. I have never been a speed demon. The game will be playable for several years.

I want to say I’ll watch every cutscene, in game and video, and enjoy the story. But I know I get impatient after a while. I am a bit of a completionist though so i’ll probably clear every dungeon, do every stronghold, and get every lilith statue, and complete every quest before moving on to the next zone with the possible exception of getting legendary aspects and mounts from other zones, then coming back.

What kind of pace do you think you’ll do? Are you excited for story or end-game? Side quests or main? Completion?

I’m debating on 100% a zone before moving to the next, but I think it’ll depend on a few friends and the urge to explore new zones outside of the betas.

I am definitely going to 100% each region, though i will unlock important stuff like the mount and the druid class mechanic as soon as possible. I am going with my own theorycrafted builds.

At release? Story, I am mostly excited about builds tho. I will discus with friend after every zone where we are heading next. We probably wont be 100%ing during first playthrough, we will explore but just if it will feel like it holds back story too much we will press onwards. Same with sidequests, most likely wont pick all of them, “just enough” instead.

First season we will push hard tho to gear for PvP. However I am sure first leveling up and story and music… oh the music, will be something to enjoy and savor.

Thinking that I’ll go through the story and avoid sidequests and such. Grind to WT 3 and then start exploring and doing sidequests.

Planning to watch all cut-screens. Do “majority” of side quests. of course do all main quests. Probably do all dungeons, as part of completing the map. But things like Lilith Statues I will get a couple as I first play through, come back at end to find them all.

Semi-competitionist first run-through basically.

And regarding build, since low level drop rate were abysmal I don’t think there will be much choice, so building around whatever will be available at moment. Which is fun, kinda roguelike challenge.

I’m going to race to top 1000 HC level 100. After I lose that I am going to start a new character and take it nice and easy through the story and 100% everything.

Yeah. I’m definitely going to watch every single cutscene to completion for first time. I’ll probably skip for future playthroughs, depending on the scene. I’ll likely even explore all random NPC dialogue and try to absorb it all.

They really should have kept that challenge for first season, it would be so much better… not to mention way more fair. Halfa**ed decision, really, it could have wait few weeks.

I agree. I am just doing it for some fun craps and giggles. Might even set up a stream so people can have some fun laughing at me haha.

Watch every cutscene, go everywhere, talk to everyone, 100% each region, enjoy the story. The first playthrough will be extremely slow, but it’s the perfect time for it, since there’s no season yet

I am approaching D4 with my own experience in mind and I’m gonna ignore what some would consider optimal builds. I’m going to play it the way I want to play it and not be influenced by what others are doing.

I will look up some build ideas, then probably use them as suggestions and do what I think is feels cool if its effective too. Then I will take my time enjoying the story and everything. I see no reason to super rush the game personally. If there is any motivation to go faster it will likely come from being interested in unlocking more skills that change how my character plays. I am in it for the long haul if the game proves engaging enough (and I suspect it will, so consider me cautiously optimistic). I want to actually immerse into the story, characters, and worldbuilding of Sanctuary and savor the experience. Also if Blizzard discovers balance adjustments they need to make, balance issues will probably manifest in the first weeks after launch, so I see no need to rush, only to have my playstyle or character nerfed into oblivion shortly thereafter.

As for strategy, probably a darkness/minion master necro.

My strategy is to have fun. I’m probably going to no life it, and take my time uncovering entire maps and doing all the side quests, dungeons, etc. I know people are going to focus in on the main story to get their horse, but I don’t think it will take me that long to get it, even while doing everything else, because I’ll probably be playing long, long hours. But, fun is most important to me.
