At this stage, it is safe to say that the game has been somewhat of a massive failure in comparison to the expectations that the world had for the game. The expansion brought a bit of hope to some fans but it was all let down soon after.
On june 1st, the game will have been out for two years and we still have not fought any of the 3 main bosses. At this pace, Diablo will arise in 2027-28?
Call me crazy, I would love Blizzard to abandon the diablo IV fiasco and go straight into Diablo V. Try to keep as much as possible of the team and start from scratch. Try removing the arcade/mobile features of the game and please bring back the essence that made D2/POE2 great.
There’s an average of 300-500 viewers on twitch. I know this is not the greatest metric to see the true popularity of a game but…
Should we close doors on D4 and let the team go straight into Diablo 5?
If you’re planning to fund it, by all means they absolutely should. They’re still planning on an expansion next year. If that doesn’t go well, I’m not entirely sure Microsoft would be willing to let them start up D5. That would be a huge gamble.
Did you poll the world? I’m just curious where you get this “massive failure” from, and with which metric you are using to judge it.
Blizzard has stated they’ve garned tons of money off D4. You personally may not like the game, or got tired of it, but Blizzard has made over a billion dollars on D4. Not sure how you call that a failure.
The game is a massive success. It was the fastest selling game ever for Blizzard and has made over 1billion dollars. Apparently, enough people like it to be such a huge financial success.
Nope. Why keep the same people / team if you think this version is such a failure? Just curious.
I’m not sure the whole world wants D2 ( or D2R) again. They already made and remade that. Even if they did, wouldn’t it make more sense to hire those people? You obviously think they know better. Why let these have another shot at it?
A billion $ is not net revenue. We do not know the size of their team. We do not know the overall cost of producing seasons + expansions.
Their team / production infrastructure could be costing them anywhere from 1 to 10 million $ a year.
Honestly whatever comes is gonna be subpar, and don’t think there’s much to gain or lose lol, perhaps a good thing cause finally some space for experimentations and revolutionary ideas (somewhat )
$10 million a year would be a pittance compared to a billion. Don’t they teach maths at school anymore?
It would take 100 years at a $10 million/year expenditure to equate to a billion. And that’s assuming they earn $0 on those 100 years. But according to Blizzard, they generate $150m/year in MTX from D4.
I have a feeling they already started this project back when Rod entered. He mentioned that D5 was going to be sooner than later - of course when you hear soon[tm] it could mean anything.
I think they put something together super fast and basically integrated a lot of the D3 base code into the new engine - and yes it was a new engine - probably cannibalized a lot of the code - evident by how stash works.
Massive failure for you maybe, many players actually enjoy the game especially considering its target audience is a casual player style crowd or the dad that doesn’t have huge hours per week due to family. If games not for you so be it but you don’t get to call failure or otherwise mate. It’s clear you made your decision why not just move on and join PoE2 like the other fanboys and haters
That’s also assuming that the 1 - 10 million number the poster pulled out of his rectum was even close to being accurate. Which I highly doubt it is.
Bli$$ D4 team worker month salary: 5000$ x 500 workers = 2500000$ x 12 months = 30000000$
Other Bli$$ D4 team expenses = 100000$ x 12 months = 1200000$
Total yearly = 31200000$
