There has been some discussion within the community, and among content creators, for some time now that blue items have no purpose… I believe they serve a perfectly reasonable purpose early on (as your character progresses towards end game having relevance up until world tier 4 when you have full yellow and legendary gear.) but do inevitably fall into near total irrelevance.
I believe that by adding a quest reward we could solve this issue. The end game quest reward would transform blue items into another tier of item perhaps iridescent, or a deep navy blue. These items would roll affixed with a wider range or potential. Say for example with crit it could roll from 1.5%-6.5% rather than 3%-6%. They would still only contain two affixes but with potential for higher rolls. Now this isn’t a new suggestion but… what if these items could be broken down into an affix amplifier. There’s a 50/50 of which of the two affixes would remain. (As well as only a small chance of an iridescent dropping with a large desirable stat) but you could take this a fix amplifier and attach it to a yellow or legendary item with the same stat (but smaller) to replace the stat. In this way blues would serve as relevant items in the end game. These items would allow for gear to achieve better stats than they would otherwise be capable of. What do you guys think?
I know there is already a number of plans for itemization come season 4 so this is a future consideration. But I think it would play nicely with the proposed changes and give blue items purpose throughout a characters development.
