While I don’t agree with it, I understand the reasoning behind seasonal resets i.e. there is simply not enough endgame content in the game to keep a player engaged so the solution is to get them to start over from scratch every few months. It’s a terrible solution but at least it’s clear cut.
On the other hand, what reason could there possible be against introducing seasonal content on the Eternal realm to give those players who don’t have the time or simply don’t want to start from scratch something to do? This would in no way impact those who believe in seasonal resets and that option will still be available to them.
If anything, Eternal needs the periodic infusion of new content even more because there is even less to do on leveled and geared characters. On top of that Blizzard clearly have no problem with introducing the seasonal battle pass, I mean “reliquary,” to the Eternal Realm so why not the actual content of that season as well?
It’s becoming almost inevitable at this point because the game is only being balanced with the incredibly strong seasonal borrowed powers in mind which makes endgame activities on Eternal, particularly higher Pit tiers, almost impossible to do because eternal players have no access to those powers (and Blizzard haven’t added any seasonal powers to the base game since Season 2 even though they keep getting stronger and stronger with each season).
It just makes absolutely no sense at all any way you look at it. Unless of course they’re afraid that no one (even those who protest to love the seasonal resets) will ever play on the Seasonal Realm if given the option to not have to start over and regrind the exact same things they just finished grinding for months, which of course just further highlights what a terrible system seasonal resets are.
I would love to hear what people think about this.
From the very beginning Blizzard hyped up the seasons in D4. It is interesting that some people purchased a game the has seasons, they do not want to play the seasons but they want the content form the season on the eternal realm. It might be similar to people who detest PvP they have no intention of ever going into the FoH. But they want access to the cosmetics from the FoH. The same could be said for the Dark Citadel.
I think blizzard has lost control over the development. They throw everything but the kitchen sink to see what sticks and makes people go “uhhhhh” instead of “ohhhhhh”.
With “lost control” i mean they are clueless how to further progress the agme meaningful.
If they introduce stuff to the base game outside of seasons it is inevitable in the game. If it is bad, they have to admit they made a mistake and change the game.
But if it is “seasonal” theme stuff, well, it’s gone in 3 months anyway.
It’s kinda like a “wildcard”. They are bad at developing this game and THEY KNOW. So they just throw stuff into seasons to avoid any backlash.
There probably are some reasons out there for not having the same content, at the same time, on Season and Eternal realms.
They are all bad reasons however.
It would be such an easy win for Blizzard that it kinda hurts.
(and no, it would of course not fix any major issues the game suffers from, but a step forward is a step forward)
No argument needed. There’s no reason to think Blizzard will do so. They’ve consistently demonstrated that they think of eternal as the seasonal dumping ground. The only reason they added reliquary is because they were redoing it so there was a low opportunity cost for whatever money it gets them.
When you add new content to the base game it needs to be crafted carefully. The developers seem to prefer this “haha lets go crazy” mindset, because it’s more fun for them. When they create stupid temporary stuff for seasons they don’t have to care how it affects the integrity of the game.
The convenient thing here is that majority of players are already brainwashed into thinking that seasons define a good ARPG. Typical seasonal enjoyer doesn’t know about better so they settle with mediocrity. They are probably just scared that their fun is being taken away if Eternal realm becomes more popular.
Unfortunately though, it is affecting the integrity of the base game because they tune it with the busted seasonal borrowed powers in mind which means that the content is horribly overtuned on the Eternal Realm as a result. That has to change or it will become unplayable, possibly as soon as S9 with all the massive baseline nerfs that are planned.
That about sums up the player mindset I think, although it’s not a reason but rather just a defense of the status quo.
I made a detailed suggestion to Blizzard on this topic - to simply have all special Season Powers in a closet like area of the game (from 1 to the most recent season) made available to all D4 players in the Eternal Realm next to our Stash.
Suggestions on Season Powers to be Added to the Eternal Realm - How it would work: Example, it would be like a Door - The Power Archive Closet next to our Stash etc., where we open the door and see a menu list displaying Archive of Old Powers, and from there would be a list of every season Power. D4 Players would be able to choose only one Power at a time, and change their Seasonal Power from previous seasons only, not the powers of any current season, and players would be able to change their seasonal powers anytime in the Eternal Realm as well. It would be like a closet where we change our appearance and transmog in the game - there would be a menu list of seasons listing Power Archive we can choose to activate and only one can be active at a time until the player changes it to another seasonal power from the Power Archive for example.
Blizzard can even add special questlines for each Season Archive Power to be unlocked in the Eternal Realm, which would become available with a short intro and for season 10, 11 or 12 Blizzard can also add a new Paladin Class while they are at it. Players would also get an extra rewarding Power Boost on their Season Archive Powers if they play the current season, which would be a motivator for players to play during every new season. So, this would have a mutual benefit and connection between the Eternal Realm and Season Game play for all D4 Players and it would be a win-win for Blizzard, too! Let’s hope they consider it!
This is not rocket science, it can easily be done in Diablo 4 for all players to enjoy and re-experience previous season powers Players liked the most in D4. It is simply a matter of when or if Blizzard will do it. This would give Diablo 4 a very BIG boost because the game is simply not very good at this point and the mass nerfs and taking away the power fantasy and progress from players and not actually fixing and improving the game is only making D4 worse. Many players are disappointed, myself included, and many players have already quit and this will continue because after 2 years and very little progress to actually fix and improve the game is not a good thing at all for the game or Blizzard. It is also very telling.
I hope Blizzard gets it together sooner than later and does the right thing for all D4 Players who paid and continue supporting the game, and finally come around and fix and improve Diablo 4 as Blizzard promised many times. - JJ -
Not to sound like a smart Alec, why would you need a seasonal server verses an eternal server, if you put content from seasonal on the Eternal?
The seasonal perk is you get new stuff. Then erased and start over every 2-3 months. Eternal you don’t get new things, but some trickledown, but you get to use all the resources, almost never wiped, and gear stays. Unless they legacy it.
Great placement. Look at the Gauntlets. They added content that doesn’t justify the effort. It was an activity that no one did and had a high cost since every week they had to update it etc.
So they use the seasons as laboratories and see the public’s reaction to what is positive or not. That’s fine, there’s nothing wrong with that. The raids were implemented and no one asked for them. So in the 2nd expansion we should see more changes in what the community wants the most.
Thanks for the response, Hohns. And yes, Seasonal servers are for seasonal content and the Eternal Server is for Eternal server content, which is where all rewards, gear, items, etc. except season powers go after each season, and where items earned should NOT get nerfed into any legacy after the player earned it.
Nevertheless, the point about this idea and suggestion is to liven up Diablo 4 and make it fun and worth while playing vs how it is now, which is broken, buggy, repetitive, and NOT very rewarding or fun as we all expected when we first purchased the game over 2 years ago. D4 needs a big boost of fun that is rewarding and far more entertaining and less buggy, less repetitive gaming that last 2-3 months with no real end game, and should be at least 4 to 6 months per season with major updates and special events every 1-2 months.
This old method of Seasons game play is awful, and the recent rip off Battle Pass changes by Blizzard are now giving less rewards, 500 less Platinum, weakening players and taking away progress with mass nerfs, along with bugs and problems with little improvements and fixes that are long overdue in Diablo 4 - and it’s not worth it anymore! D4 is clearly not doing good, and after over 2 years D4 players expected a lot better than this!
So any good, or entertaining ideas or suggestions would be better than the buggy, broken Beta game we have now, which is Diablo 4.
Repetition is part of any aRPG. Seasonal content. Repetitive. Eternal. Repetitive.
Games change. 2 years they aren’t going to be the same for any game marked as live service. Fun certainly is subjective. I share the view it is currently not fun, but there are many who think it is.
Broken and buggy they should fix. No arguememt there.
Then don’t play.
They have every right to change. You have every right to not play. What you find no value in, they find reasonable and fair.
There’s bugs in the game. You don’t have a beta game. You have a live service game. You shouldn’t expect perfection, no game on that change cycle will be. But that’s what you agree to. Take it or leave it.
Yes. Blizzard sucks right now. I advocate for new leadership altogether. But the two realms have been separate and it makes zero sense to have 2 with the exact same features. And one just being wiped each “season”.
