Diablo is either trolling him or seems to know something about him?
“Perhaps you fear them seeing you for what you truly are” - Diablo to Imperius.
What is he? a “Heavenly-Angelic Demon”? “Fuhrer of Light”?

He’s an angel that’s every bit as bad as a demon. Potentially worse, depending on which demon too.
Imperius is incredibly arrogant. Not uncommon among the arch angels but he’s also prone to violence and has a deep seeded hatred. He’s not the intended leader of the council either making it easy for Diablo to manipulate the others into questioning his right to lead.
In that particular situation killing Diablo was the wrong thing to do but he was easily goaded into it.
“Show them what you really are.” - A hateful killer.
He is being consumed by Wrath.
Many expected him to be next villain after D3 events
I think that was the whole point of the story in the last act. It really was saying that Demons and Angels are not inherently good or evil, but impulses and believed good impulses can be very very bad.
Was a nice spin overall to say that the righteous pretend to be better when the actions of the individual matter more.
Agreed, Imperius was supposed to be depicted as a very misguided “good guy”. I find it rather amusing though that out of the angels we meet, only 2 were ever huge problems.
Malthael after he goes crazy and Imperius. I don’t count Inarius because Inarius wasn’t really good or bad. He just wanted to go home and didn’t understand that his brothers and sisters didn’t want him back after his betrayal. If he had known that he very well may have chosen a different path in D4.
Inarius was never going to get back into the High Heavens. He should have just embraced the role of protector of Sanctuary. Now he’s dead because he was a selfish jerk.
