What is going on with the loot system?

Hi all,

Before anyone says it’s just RNG i am very familiar with RNG, i have played some of the most RNG loot based games out there and am fine with it.

But this game is on a whole new level…

Over the last two weeks i have noticed some things that seem very strange as follows:

1: I seem to be getting the same aspects on gear over and over again
2: I seem to be getting the same attributes on gear over and over again

I even created a alt and moved all my stash over to the alt thinking maybe the game is reading what i have in my stash and deciding when loot drops what to give me (tin foil hat time).

I was avoiding any dungeon with ghosts (hate them things) and thought to myself maybe that’s the cause, so i decided too do any dungeon no matter what the enemy was…still the same.

It feels like I’m stuck in a loot loop, i really don’t know what is happening but one thing for sure it’s becoming very tedious.

This is all very demoralizing.

Is this happening to anyone else?

I’m fine with RNG, it’s expected with games like this, but this seems way off.

the loot is all just crap, you are essentially just grinding repetitive content (dungeons) over and over again looking for marginal % improvements on your existing gear.

doing my taxes is more fun

lvl 97.5 Rogue - TB Build.
I have gotten a grand total of 6 Twisting Blade Aspects(er…Legs) in this journey to 97.5.
(I just got a perfect one…thankfully)
Yet: Countless Flurry, PenShot, Rapid Aspects and everything else in between.
I have yet to see a ring with a native Crit/CritDmg/Vuln or a solid, good pair of gloves.
Very small Unique drop amount too.

RNG is a p.i.t.a. in this game for sure. If it ain’t dropping - don’t even sweat it because it’s pointless frustration.
My small list of Unique items vs what I’ve read people finding(“Dozens & Dozens” or “A page of…” and friends who have also found “Dozens” and they’re between 80-100).

I know what it’s like to feel - as if I’m - blessed by some glitch in the rng matrix.
Gotta put the myopic blinders on and clear your head of expectations or “how it works/worked” in any other game you experienced.
I’m just here to hit 100 and try Lily/100nmd.

Not even caring what drops at this point.

Lvl 100 Rogue here with 1000 playing hours.
I have all decent gear (800+) all right stats but am yet to find an amazing piece with maxed out rolls. Likely that are right next to my Uber Unique I am yet to get… lol
I really don’t understand the dev thought process of making drop rates this horrendous. It is just alienating players and like the bud light deal, there are tons of other options vs playing D4. Just turn up some drop rates to realistic levels and turn down the cost of rerolling stats that end up taking 100mill+ to get a subpar stat from.
But we are yelling into an echo chamber and if it’s like the Lilith echo it’s a waste of time.

Things will turn around, I remember this feeling in D3 and have had it once in D4, My frist character seemed to be on a lottery streak it was great.

my 2nd same class had a very different struggle lol.

I’m not a fan of some of the extremely situational +dmg conditionals.

After reading your topic it got me to ask myself, wonder if this games loot is based on a true RNG system or if its an artifical RNG system, difference with these is that if its true randomness you will feel like it is completely unpredictable and often remains consistent with bad “rolls” or make it feel like “stuck” in a weird loop, but I have no clue and don’t know what this game runs on.

Most arpgs I have played felt like they have artifical RNG to mitigate making it feel like its going through a “loop” so ask yourself, do you think Diablo 4 is giving us true randomness or artificial kind?

Lets say you flip a coin, a true RNG could result in; 1.1.1.1.1.1.0.0.0.0.0.0.0.1.1.1.1.1.1.
Artificial RNG often results in; 1.1.0.0.0.1.1.0.1.0.0.0.1.1.0.0.1.1.1
It basically feels more “all around” balanced and doesn’t get stuck in one side way too long it flips sides more often basically.

Given how limited the pool of uniques and legendaries are in Diablo 4, basically we do not have that many items to choose from per class, just food for thoughts and perhaps I need my own tinfoil hat on me. :rofl:

True RNG very boring and could feel weird for a gameplay centered around it in my opinion, where as an artificial RNG I would personally find more fun.

I emphasize with you but it’s just RNG.

I remember making a post on the rogue forum on how I was not getting crit chance on gloves for 70 levels then in the following week all I saw was crit chance.

But agree on rolling stats. Way too much gold required.

With possible of million players and therefore RNG rolls, I think its total possible you could just have a streak of odd luck.

I have certain aspects I don’t find in ages.
I have aspects which never rolls best stat.
I have aspects I always roll best stats.

There is also alot of cognitive bias involved - you just forget unimportant facts sooner than something you look for - and therefore totally skew you internal “statistical” reception. :man_shrugging:

At this point the only proper answer from my own experiences is to say it’s yet to be determined. I don’t have anything concrete indicating it’s being manipulated. I don’t have anything concrete indicating it’s not being manipulated. Conclusion, undetermined.

I will say it definitely feels odd based on anecdotal experience. It wouldn’t surprise me either. Alas, anecdotal experience is not how one reaches definitive conclusions. So… undetermined.

I’d also say once a character is at level 100 and acquired a suitable amount of 770-780+ gear with respectable rolls you may as well attempt any remaining content with what you got. Improving gear in any meaningful capacity past this point is an unrealistic goal. Even if it can be done it will take too long.

I don’t mind them - I just dislike that they are all additive with each other. Conditionals should all be multiplicative. Even if the percentages get lower/rebalanced.

Not entirely. It’s weighted RNG at the very least. But it feels that the more we extract certain affixes for later imprinting the less we see them. Almost as if some algorithm is tracking what we’re going after and giving us anything but what we want or need. It also feels very, very much like whatever our skill loadout is, we’re getting every aspect but the ones that help with builds for those skills. For example I’m a pure ranged barrage/rapid fire rogue and I’d say about 1% of the items I get have anything that benefits those skills. Nearly all of what I get are for melee skills only. It really kills the incentive to keep farming when it feels like an algorithm is being used to artificially drag out the loot hunt to the point you almost never see what you need.

RNG is fake.

loots are all micro control by blizzard to make you suffer.

The whole loot system is boring, unnecessarily convoluted and unrewarding to begin with. To fix it, Blizzard would literally have to start from square one, which they will never do.

Couldn’t agree more.

Affix bloat is out of control, so many useless stats. It’s clear the devs don’t know what they’re doing as they made the problem worse with season 1. Or even worse, they know exactly what they’re doing and it’s just another way to keep you running on the treadmill.

I am not looking for upgrades on my gear, i have pretty decent gear and i know i would find it hard to get any sort of upgrade.

I am looking for almost the same type of gear but with different attributes here and there for a build that I’m trying to put together.

My point is that the gear that is dropping seems to have the same attributes all the time, just different item names.

Example, over the last two weeks pretty much every amulet that has dropped for me has 90% defensive attributes, before two weeks ago amulet drops was very random.

Same goes for aspects, i seem to be getting a group of aspects with the same rolled percentage.

Hmm, not sure where this came from, i did not mention what you say.

On that note i will continue playing and hope something changes, for how long i don’t know, a game can only demoralize someone for so long :point_right: :worried:
