I just finish an Infernal Horde run and it gave me an option “Exchange Aether for Gold”.
Aether are those little red orbs you’ve been picking up while you’ve been fighting, it’s used at the end to spend on the chests. There’s typically three chests available (assuming you’re 60). The amount of Aether you’ve collected should be in the top right of the screen.

Yes I opened 2 chests then clicked on the “Exchange for gold” and nothing happened. I must have spent it all. Thanks for the info.
The materials and gold chest both consume all remaining Æther - if you open either chest first, no other chests will be available. Their rewards scale based on how much Æther you have.
If you play without a pet, you can leave some Æther uncollected, open 2 chests, go back and collect the remaining aether, open the 3rd chest. Generally though, you will just be wanting the Items and Materials.
