What exactly did you want D4 to be?

So many complaints here.

Like what game were you waiting for?

I mean like what would they have needed to make for you to be happy?

If you could earn plat in game, even at a slow snails pace, I’d have little to complain about for the time being.

A game where I have to dodge, use potions, upgrade gear and use synergies, and have to have an intelligent build. Basically exactly what we got. If this becomes D3 again imma have a stroke.

A properly balanced hack-and-slash arpg without all the mmo stuff.

A proper ARPG or a proper MMORPG, not something in-between.

I was expecting more ability customization than D3 had. But since there don’t seem to be sets and every piece of gear can have a fancy affix on it it’s pretty darn close to feeling like D3 levels of customization.
I was a hater who got converted by the endgame.

Sets are going to make things worse, not better. Everyone will be chasing only set items and ignoring all the rest, going only the cookie-cutter build the bonus set provides.

That’s killing the choices even more.

Not an MMO lite with almost no trading and huge day 1 nerfs that weren’t needed just because they want to force you to have to use a “generator”.

Fast action and feeling powerful like D3. But without absolute reliance on sets. I also would like to have the humorous parts back like the cow level and whimsyshire. Of course good build diversity where you can progress with any semi competent build…ie a well made lightning or hydra one.

A D2+D3 lovechild.

D3 with the skill trees and classes from D2 with some new and creative ideas thrown in.

People have been saying similar things for years. It’s not like Blizz didn’t have plenty of knowledge of what Diablo fans wanted.

So not an ARPG.

unrestricted trade and no level scaling would be enough to keep me playing this for years

I expected it to be far better than all its predecessors. But it’s almost as bad as pre-RoS D3.

  • Hardly any interesting endgame activities to speak of.
  • :poop: classes (that crap should’ve stayed in D2)
  • :poop: skill choices (that crap should’ve stayed in D2)
  • terrible level pacing
  • terrible itemization
  • terrible resource system
  • junky “story mode” - the whole “going wherever you want and doing whatever act you want first” is just terrible
  • nonexistent character build customization
  • ridiculously bloated level cap to grind for, should’ve stuck with 60 & raise it by 10 per expansion.

I can go on for days. This is why seasons will be a total flop, because the level of redoing needed to fix everything will take a VERY long time, and it will most likely never happen.

Of course it would, because then you’d simply be “working from home” instead of getting a real job.

So two of the biggest reasons that the Diablo franchise exploded in popularity… I get the feeling you’re not really an ARPG fan.

The Obvious

Not be so reliant on their servers to have a fun game experience. It would be nice to be able to play the game offline (but I get that it is 2023). Since you can't trade higher quality items the only point to being online is for world events.

Other

  1. Less “following suit” of AAA RPG titles with dumb “easter egg hunts”. Hunting down all the Alters of Lilith to get all the Paragon Points is an OCD task.

  2. Less convoluted crafting system. One of the things I loved in D3 was the ability to craft new items at the Blacksmith. This blacksmith is just an upgrader. Not as fun/exciting. Also, do we need 20+ crafting resources?

  3. In general it reeks of phone game mechanics, but at least the MTX isn’t selling crafting materials (yet).

Easy answer: Better than what we got.

Its a famous IP with high expectations. Dont act all shocked people are not thrilled with every game decisions. Welcome to blizzard game forums.

The problems start when people stop whining for a better game and stop caring. That happened with WOW already…at least retail.

ONE big reason D2 exploded in popularity = mods. Without mods it would’ve died out over a decade ago. Make sure to send Brother Laz a gift basket.

And all the classes have been and still are being roasted to hell and back today, so much for your popularity theory.

Blizzard really can’t win because the things different player groups are complaining about are often in conflict.

Some want it to be Paced more like Diablo3 and easier like Diablo3, others don’t because they didn’t like Diablo3, they liked Diablo2 much more and think it’s still too like Diablo3.

Some want a solo game with no other players in.

Some want more MMO features.

Some want it easier, some harder.

That’s just a sampling.

Of course these are just the complainers a high proportion of players like me don’t think it’s the best game ever but are enjoying it.

So all they have to do is make a solo offline game that is a better online open world game, that is more like Diablo3 and less like Diablo3, that has character builds, but no character builds and that is easier and harder, oh and with slower and faster progression, forgot that. Then everyone will be happy.

Best of luck with that blizzard.

There has been many posts on this.

First, I anticipated the world of sanctuary. Large endless battlefields with iconic places. Not random winding paths. This should have been Skyrim scale after 10 years.

Second. To play the game as the story unfolds. Not chasing down ?s and !s in an arpg. They want to hit a pinnacle boss in each act. Not Elias number 12 or unnamed boss number 1. Even the world events are lame.

Third. I want to slay mobs. I do not want to mount and skip demons that I am supposed to be slaying. I don’t want an empty world map.

Fourth. I would like to be immersed in the world. I don’t want comic text streaming on my monitor when I hit things. I don’t want mobs to glow. I want blood and guts, arrows sticking out of walls, singe marks.

Fifth. I want Diablo. I could care less if Mephisto is a dog or male. I could care less about the book of Lilith. I paid for Diablo.

And lastly, I wanted something epic. I am not talking the loot bags on a timer world boss encounters in the game now. I am talking when act 1 is finished fire starts raining from the sky and villages have been plundered. By act 2, a river of flame should have opened in the fractured peaks and flooded all low lying areas with lava. Meteors should start coming down and demons including diablo should be roaming the river. Act 4, Lilith should have breeched an opening with portals to heaven. Ice wind, acid rain. Act 5, the ultimate battle for sanctuary with d and every thing he could throw at us.

This is a shell of a diablo game. It is barely playable.

And vanilla D2 is still the best in the genre, cope.

An ARPG that doesn’t try to force me into engaging with it like an MMO.

IOW, get rid of the FOMO, I don’t play ARPGs because I want to feel forced into playing the game like a full time job.
