I played the game for the first time in many months, and the past character I used to play which I loaded up had a full inventory of “Legacy Items”.
- What are those?
- Why are they there?
- Do I need to get rid of them?
- Will they eventually auto-delete those items from my character, holding chests, and wardrobe closets?
- What’s the point? Why is it necessary to show me I have “legacy” items. The game came out last year, is it already making our past gameplay sessions and character buildups meaningless?
I assume it was from the game evolving since I last payed (patch updates). Has the game been updated so much that all past loot items are weak, valueless, un-modifiable, or something? I stopped playing after 5 minutes after I saw this. Just wondering if all my past stuff is worthless now. If so, I may have no problem staying away from the game for longer
I realize they may be just fine. But if that’s the case, there’s no reason to create alarm by calling them “legacy” items. Any other product or service in life that gets labeled “legacy” means it’s likely on its way out or deprecated.

Denoting or relating to software or hardware that has been superseded but is difficult to replace because of its wide use.
Oh, okay. So you’re saying Diablo IV has become yesterday’s news and deprecated? Superseded by a newer, shinier, better version or game? Lingers around but our time could be spent better elsewhere? Got it

Yeah that gear is worthless the second you find a new item.

Legacy mythics can still be good. They have max rolled stats despite the lowered item power.

Legacy items are items from a previous season or version of the game. Core itemization has been changed a few times over the past few months, and items from the old systems have been labeled legacy.
Legacy items cannot be improved through the masterworking or tempering item systems and are effectively frozen. You can still change the aspect on them.
Once you find a replacement item for your legacy item, it’s best to break the legacy item for parts. Clearing them from your stash is recommended.

Okay, thanks. That’s all great info
I’m okay with evolving games, especially if it’s for the better. But considering this game is so deeply rooted in loot grabs and collecting stuff, it just seems odd to spend all that time collecting stuff, only to have it be made near-worthless by newer stuff. So, I guess, time to purge 99% of my stash chest and inventory?
We should have a loot museum available to us to dump all the legacy items into so we can peek in every once in a while to remember the good ole days of collecting the stuff. Separate stash chests or something that only allow “Legacy” items to go in
I was fairly meticulous in deciding what to keep or toss before, trying to keep what I felt was the “good” stuff or cool stuff. Now all that effort is deemed near-pointless. There’s little or no incentive to ever do that again. In fact, if I ever play it again, I definitely won’t be doing that, and I will keep my stash chests pretty much empty except for gems and the occasional, super rare, super special item (even though even that will likely be made obsolete in an upcoming patch around the corner)
This mechanic makes the game even more pointless than it already was to play, which is sad
Feel your pain there. Unfortunately the previous itemization system desparately need an overhaul. And that system needed some fine tuning to get to a better state. Which was immediately followed by a math overhaul and stat squish, leading to yet another round of legacy items.
Items are in a much better place than a year ago. Wish they’d had done it one shot instead over 6 months.

Oh, that’s pretty cool. Hearing those words does give me hope and makes me intrigued to play some more, to see what it’s all about. I have been away for quite a long time due to BG3 and another game or two getting in my way, so it could be interesting to see what the current state is. Thanks @righthere

Not 100% true. My 12/12 540 shako has just over 100 health.
Legacy Items are a forced/unnecessary design to attempt to force Eternal Realm players to the Seasonal Realm in hopes they start buying the Battle Pass every season. Rather than just respecting the players that can’t live on the game 24/7 and enjoy progressing over longer durations of time and sticking with a build until it truly feels finished or min/maxed. Honestly, had they just respected us and added a separate Eternal Realm Specific Battle Pass, I probably would have bought it. But, this team is led by a bunch of geniuses, so.

No problem! Think you might find some cool stuff in there. Things a bit more customizable. Have fun!

Your Shako is even older than last season then. The one from Season 5 got updated to have 800 life base.
I guess they dont update Mythics with different stats than the current ones. Does yours have Resource Generation instead of Maximum Resource?
I have one of each. I’ll have to double check but I’m pretty sure both have low health.
I thought that might have been at play, too
Great suggestion to leave the initial realm alone. Because they didn’t do that, though, from my layman’s perspective I feel like the rug got pulled out from under my game a bit since I don’t play 24x7.
I would have loved to be able to set my game down months ago and have it be in that same general state today when I came back (especially in terms of items). But I guess once I get all new items and experience the improvements mentioned above by righthere, I will probably quickly adjust and forget (which is what Blizzard banks on), but it’s just too bad
It sounds like the improvements made are truly great and necessary and this maybe was the only decent way of implementing them, so that’d be fine
Interested in your findings. I just double checked an old one I have (with all stats) and 12/12 it gives 156 life.
E - guess thats with 1 crit on the life roll too.
Mark my words. They’ll continue to find “excuses” to do a full reset on Eternal Realm every chance they can. Even if it can easily be avoided.

Legacy ites are what Blizzard says are items that they coded incorrectly but will let you keep in a non season game. Meaning they dont know how to itemize their stuff, from season to season to be within normal operating standards, they only know how to back door code items to be broken season after season.
Enjoy your broken item if you ever get one to drop before they patch it out, usually after a month in from a patch. Youll never see it ever drop again.

The inventory for my character is completely filled with legacy (“broken”?) items. Every slot
It looks like there are 2 version of Legacy Shakro, I have one 1,160 health and the tripple crit non GA CRD at 44%. While I also have the 100 health Shakro. I have no idea how this shakro end up 100 health. My other mythics like Tyreal Might and Ring of starless sky still maintain the max value like the new 800 gears. I am still using them as I don’t have enough mats to masterwork my 40 new 800 Item Power White Elephant Mythics
