Werewolf Crit Damage help

Level 70 Druid here. Ancestral gear, not following any particular build but I am watching my Crit numbers with Shred and lucky to see 10K. the 3rd attack says 15K so why aren’t my damage modifiers boosting this? I have 30 Crit Chance, 154 Crit Damage, 52 Attack speed, 75% all damage, 52% Physical plus a ton of other stats but even crit hits are showing as less that what shred should even do?

I fought Butcher in WT4, NM22 and he healed faster than I could hit him. My survivability is great but why don’t any of my damage modifiers actually affect my damage?

I’m not sure what your full build is, but are you utilizing grizzly rage with the Aspect of the Rampaging Werebeast?

I’m level 70 myself, wearing not a single piece of Ancestral gear (have not switched my gear yet, currently collecting new pieces) and my current shred build has crit damage that ramps up to the point of one shotting every mob.

Yes Grizzly rage, also with the extra 6 seconds. My sheet attack power is 6,388. It feels like none of the modifiers are enhancing my damage. The attack and crit numbers flashing on hit just reflect base damage and I barely scratch the pillars in the Legion events.

I have the +2 with hurricane, Mad Wolf Armor, ton of Shape Shift damage and werewolf damage modifers but Shred does not seem to activate the mods. Played D2 and D3 extensively and knew all of the old break points, I just don’t know how to proc them I guess. I see the Crit Damage color, but Crit and regular attack numbers just equal the supposed output of Shred without all of the bonuses I have.

Do you have issues generating spirit? What a pull should ideally look like, starting with close to max or max spirit, is:

-Activate Hurricane
-Activate Grizzly Rage
-Spam Shred through all targets repeatedly
-Use Blood Howl to generate more Spirit, reducing cooldown with kills.

With a proper paragon board, and certain other aspects, at level 70 Spirit Generation should never be an issue. With constant spirit you’re spamming Shred, the more targets you hit, the more crits you get, the more damage you deal until Grizzly Rage ends. This should be getting your damage to the point that you one shot everything, so if it isn’t maybe there are certain aspects or paragon nodes you’re missing.

But I have no clue what to improve. I can spam shred but it just doesn’t hit as hard as the math indicates it should. I can basically spam wolf howl and very minor cool down with Grizzly. My wolf is constantly shredding, just very small numbers in damage despite all of the modifiers. I am willing to redo my paragon boards but if the math doesn’t add up, seems pointless.

Is this a seasonal Druid? Do you have the Barber Malignant Heart?

Do you have Stormclaw’s Aspect as well as Edgemaster’s Aspect?

Is your first node in your paragon board the one that makes targets Vulnerable for 3 seconds?

There are a lot of different things that add up to get the numbers we get, so it’s tough without a full build.

I thought vulnerable damage was separate from Crit damage. This is the kinda stuff that drove me to ask. I really do not think I understand the vulnerable concept. I have Stormclaw Aspect, but not the edgemaster Aspect. Edgemaster is just + to damage and none of the other +to damages matter so it will not help me. I have the +24% to damage with a barrier and my numbers didn’t budge despite having a barrier 80% of the time.

And yes to Seasons with the Hearts. I have the Heart that pulls, the heart that grants Grizzly on freeze and one that releases fire damage.

It definitely matters and Vulnerable damage is important. All these damage increases add up and stack to the point that it makes a big difference in the final numbers.

I’m thinking we have to get your paragon board right and get you a Barber Heart.

Too broke trying to reroll gear. I did the same dumb crap in non season. I spent a ton of gold thinking that increasing my resistances would help my Rogue, only to find out that resistances are just a filler junk stat that do not actually help :frowning:

I will rebound on gold, and respec to some canned build I guess. I was having a ton f fun with the shred play style but I like the Rogue, you cannot just build on your own without some Streamers guide directing every point.

Thanks for the help! I made the same mistake with damage, as I did with resists and took the stats at face value. I just get bored with a game that forces me to copy a formal build to be playable, just seems too rigid to constrain players to A Build, while throwing in a bunch of junk filler stats to create an illusion of “build diversity”.

Check out the maxroll Lightning Shred late game guide.

This will give you a lot of info you need. Keep in mind that with a Mad Wolf’s Glee you can use Storm Strike as your generator when you’re not in Grizzly Rage, and claw when you are (Storm Strike is just better to use overall which is why I mention this, maybe the next patch changes coming will alter this).

This build is COMPLETELY doable without Tempest Roar, although it does make it better. Without Tempest Roar you will be running Debilitating Roar instead of Cyclone Armor, so get the Aspect that lets you use Roar in Wolf form. This build will get you right. You don’t need to follow it exactly, but you should take away the key points and paragon board.

Your damage will thank you.

Wow. Honestly I struggled so hard with my Rogue I was skeptical that such minor changes would yield such massive damage. I haven’t even fixed my paragon board, just the skill tree and I am now hitting about as hard as I expected. I am using a butchers sickle, it is fun and I am glad I can hold on to it a few more levels too.

Huge thanks helping out a frustrated wolf!

A couple of things to note:

  • I’m assuming by ‘I have a barrier 80% of the time’ you mean you use temerity. Temerity does not work with [x] barrier damage aspects. But they will begin working together on August 8th (next patch).
  • Along with the exploit glyph, try to find rings and a weapon with +vulnerable.
  • That build isn’t bad without TR, but it has some conflicting skills without TR (hurricane and Rage). There are ways to deal more consistent damage (without TR).
  • Butchers’ cleaver is fun, but it isn’t very good at killing stuff.

Hope that gives you a little more boost.

Here is basic damage calc theory - worth a look:

This build is doable for sure, I hit for 18mil in a video I recorded just for fun, who knows what my top top number is. I just hit lvl 100 10 min ago so yay for that.

Another thing do not do not use barber heart if you are using waxing gibbous, and do not use the heart that gives you up to like 75 crit dam unless you use a gibbous, You need to be critting all the time to keep your numbers high and not take - damage on non crit hits.
