Would be nice to see the removal of class restrictions for certain weapons, like swords, axes, maces and shields.
So 1: we benefit from more build diversity with all classes
2: It is just plain stupid that we cant put a sword on a sorc or druid, a shield on anything but necro… etc.
3: why label staffs as “druid staffs” and “sorc staffs” its a staff. Lol.
Theres a lot of “little things” like this that are just… idk why they were developed into the game like this to begin with? Its the opposite of common sense.
I’m now imagining a sorc and a barb arguing that the barb shouldn’t use wands…
B “It’s pointy. pointy means it stabs.”
S “Sure, but that’s not it’s purpose. it’s meant to-”
impales demons face
B “feels like it’s meant to stab”
S “fine… use the darn wand.”
(totally agree with your point btw)
Weapon restrictions have been in these types of games forever. If they do what you want then they have to rebalance all these items for every hero including uniques not made for these heroes. Its a lot of work and sounds good on paper but in practice is a huge headache.
That being said I think each hero should have 1 specific weapon type only for them for identity reasons and that is it.
Also why is spear of avalon or whatever uber actually a staff? Rename it staff of avalon?
I mean certain weapons. Mainly the basic ones. there were never weapon restrictions in any diablo game outside of class or caster specific style. Swords, dagger, maces, Axes, shields ,were always usable by all the classes. I dont expect barbs to use focuses and wands or anyone outside of necro having a scythe.
Could be wrong, but I dont think there would be much rebalancing needed, since the current restrictions only seem to limit classes to the tools that are the most effective for them. Removing the restrictions would only open up sub-par options (maybe not for uniques). But I doubt a barbarian is gonna be effective using whirlwind with a voodoo doll / cast catalyst thingy.
They may do the same as guild wars 2… where slowly they allow more weapons for each class. This doubles as a “feature” when they sell us an expansion… never know!
