We really need WASD

Need to talk about WASD for sure. Not every player is a youngen. many of us have been here since Diablo 1 and the clicker just ain’t what it used to be. WASD makes things so much nicer on the hands and wrist. Immoral Immortal was a cash grab worthy of Activision’s deepest shame but the WASD in it made the game playable. At this point WASD is just an accessibility option. And it should be, an option. Please don’t make us use 3rd party programs to make WASD work. Xpadder and similar programs can do stuff but it’s hard to find a genuine program and installing stuff like that isn’t always safe. Many AARPGs are using wasd and there is no excuse to disallow it in 2023.

Please do this Blizzard. It’s a simple thing and so very game changing for many of us. It’s becoming a bit of a standard in ARPGs. I’m surprised it’s in Diablo Immortal but they didn’t bring it in for D4. Strange, actually.

They didn’t do it because they wanted to minimize as much as possible in terms of using resources while adding monotization practices. Accessibility features like wasd would be the last thing on their minds.

IV is starting to look like a final cash grab for the diablo franchise at this point.

WASD is a must have in modern games. Or at least blizz should add keybindings to map w/e keys you want. It just hurts having to click click click all over the place. Mapped force movement to left CRTL key so I can just point and keep CTRL pressed.

I think so, it’s a simple feature, and it adds a lot to the fluidity and quality of life for the player.
For example, it is extremely annoying to be playing Rogue, click behind your character to position yourself and quickly click again on the other side of the screen to release the skill in the correct direction.
The player is stuck using the mouse for 2 functions at the same time, yes I understand that we have the option to put more skills on the keyboard, however the movement through WASD is very intuitive, leaving the mouse free for its true function, aiming at the right creature and use the skill in the right direction.
During the beta and playing as Roque, I find this trivial so that the player can get the most out of his class, unlike Mage, who a Light Skill searches for all creatures on the screen, or the Barbarian, presses 1 button and they are dead around you.
So pleeeease WASD!!

WASD are my ability keys, I’m too lazy to reach for the 1-4 keys…

Weird, I thought WASD features were normally requested by people who want to Bot or use bot scripts. I never thought about normal players wanting Wsad in a Diablo type game.

It’s true, many games these days have wasd movement. it is so so so much better on the wrist and clicking finger. It also dramatically extends the life of your mouse by reducing the number of clicks on the left click by 2/3s.

the Devs already talked about WASD. Seems some of you didn’t watch the Development Recap.

i dont get the want for wasd when the camera is fixed tbh.

the only thing that makes wasd feel good is a rotating camera ala wow imo.

wasd without control of the camera sounds liek youre gonna have a hard time with diagonals

Generally, a link to the time spot in an hour long video is nice!

Seeing as there is controller support, surely there is an input workaround to make this possible.

I’ve been playing since the original as well, and I honestly cannot imagine trying to work Diablo without click to move. To me it would make powers so cumbersome (without a many-button mmo mouse or something) - but these forums at least have shown me that some people really prefer that setup. I can’t imagine it would be too difficult to add as an option.

WASD is very likely the single most common control scheme in PC gaming as a whole. There’s also tons of isometric games that utilize WASD and it works really well. Most recently, WASD titles I played were The Ascent, Synthetik, and Hades. Everyone requesting WASD wants it because it reduces/prevents RSI issues and because it’s a familiar control scheme. It would also be mostly easy to implement, as controller movement already exists.

I can guarantee we aren’t even remotely thinking about botting. I’ve never ran bots, but it doesn’t seem there would be a reason to use bots in D4. Without trading, someone who bots wouldn’t be able to profit. So they’d have no reason to bot. Unless it’s just to get themselves loot. But at that point they’re just doing themselves a disservice by not enjoying the game and playing as intended. Regardless of botting, WASD would be a great addition to D4. More accessibility options would only improve the game further.

They couldn’t even get separating left click and interact key bind right. The option splits move and interact into 2 seperate keybinds, I just want move and interact to be left click and the left click ability its own separate bind. Good luck getting them to add WASD.

I already saw the stream, but it doesn’t really change anything. Because Joe Shely simply said it wouldn’t be included at launch, but suggested it could be added later. The game isn’t out yet and we’re literally playing beta tests, so now is the exact time that players make suggestions and give feedback. Everything is subject to change.

There’s been a lot of people requesting WASD support, so it’s very likely they’ll reevaluate WASD. Plus it wouldn’t be a difficult thing to implement, as controller movement already exists. And classic click to move would still be the default control scheme. It’s a win win, hopefully they add it soon.

The truly crazy thing about this is it must already be in there to some degree because of controller support. It is really just allowing a combination of both mouse and controller at the same time, but mapping the up down left right to awsd. I’m not sure there even is a development time to this other than an extra mapping.

I can do the other diablo games without WASD, but not this one. I actually tried to use WASD out of reflex to dodge attacks. Ended up opining some menu. Really annoying.

There’s actually very many isometric WASD based games. Most recently I played The Ascent, Synthetik, and Hades. Perhaps you’ve never used WASD, but it’s likely the single most common movement option in PC gaming as a whole. Also diagonal isn’t an issue on WASD, you press two keys to go diagonally, you could imagine it like a directional pad.

How did you get to character movement with wasd and botting? What’s the link to that?

Is this your way of protesting wasd movement? Because if it is, that’s a sad argument.

It wasn’t in the beta, the open beta. Something as important as that should have already been incorporated. Seems like you don’t understand that.
