Out of all the ARPGs out there, it seems bizarre that D3 & D4 are the only games that have damage numbers in the millions and billions. Hitting for that high of damage numbers just clutters the screen. It doesn’t really matter how high the numbers are if the health bars are tuned accordingly. You could hit for 500 dmg instead of 50million and still be relevant if the health bars are balanced properly.
In the PTR, we can clearly see the benefit of stat squish where affixes on gear actually matter. Why not go a step further and squish the stats even more, to let’s say 100 item power? We know that power creep is inevitable with runewords in expansion and devs have taken the approach to always buff instead of nerf to appease the player base. Having a lower base to start off with gives more room to devs to introduce new systems that offers player power, without resulting in silly millions and billions damage numbers that resemble D3. It’s tricky to balance multiplicative bonuses when the devs are working with a high numbers to begin with.
I genuinely think part of the reason why DND remains the top table top RPG is partly due to the fact that most dmg are single digit, everything is easy to calculate and visualize.
Imagine if all DND players are like omg I cast fire ball! Roll a d20 and it’s suddenly 20 billion hit, wtf lmao
Unstopppable.
Yeah I accidentally recorded that in normal, because I was in a rush to import another druid and try to build it out fully. But even in Penitent it is the same…so broken. But I want to give it a full build treatment with paragon to see how it scales to endgame.
My hopes are high for this one.
Oh I know the ptr plays better damage-wise…but Blizzard can’t resist or are just unaware there are broken builds being intoduced or still exist.
Lower damage does not bother me at all, I wanted it…but it’s the relative damage that has always been the issue. (I just love that scene from that movie, and love posting it )
That build I linked, I solo’d a WB (well not really solo there were two other lvl50-52 players there to watch) at lvl 53 in under 2 minutes. My fastest WB kill since the changes to them. I also believe I saw it overpower for a significantly large number and I had not added any paragon points yet.
Any ideas for new sorc builds? I have so far on eternal and seasons made a chain lightning / spear guy, frozen orb, blizzard, ice shards, and ball lightning.
Curious if hydra is any good? +12 heads seem fun. Could buy hydra cosmetics and be hydra guy.
unfortunately, no stat squish will save us with such multipliers, it will always look stupid. But to be honest, i’m too tired of discussing just how bad core mechanics of D3/D4 are.
Not sure if this question was for me, but I would just look at the new Sorc skill and Aspects and Uniques introduced…there is a good chance the new stuff completely is broken by some of the existing stuff.
I personally have not played Sorc since s4 and am full on Druibetic now (yes I peeked at Sorc at the last PTR). Druibetic is really fun because you can make everything work to similar degrees.
